Was there a fighter named Jack Williams who fought out of St. Louis who beat Hearns?

I felt that Hearns was very lucky to win his fight with George Gilbody in an England/USA dual, which Englan won 6/5 I think, possibly the strongest England boxing team I have known in my lifetime.

What were the results in that 6-5 win for GB in 1977?

I think looking back it might not have been an England team, but a GB team and it may have been a warm up for the Olympics. My memory fades but I think it had names like Charlie Magri, Pat Cowdell, Boza Edwards, George Gilbody, Clinton Mckenzie. The reason I think it may have been a GB team is I seem to have a memory of Colin Jones being in it.

It was on sportsnight I think, and I am sure I have seen a video of the Gilbody Hearns fight since then somewhere which is why I have a memory of Hearns scraping the win. 40 years ago so my memory may be completely shot of course.

Perhaps there are some amateur boxing buffs out there who can confirm or rubbish my memories?

well if it was 1977 then it certainly was not a warm up for the Olympics which was 3 years away. so I reckon it was a warm up for the 1972 games - but I think this would have included minter and knight and maybe Frankie lucas. you could be right about the GB team and not an England one. I also hope a am-box buff puts us right

I think it was 76, and either a warm up for the montreal games or just a post war tournament.
