I know this has been debated here before but last night's fight made me think of that match up.

IMHO, Ray will be the one who moves around the ring, fighting on the outside, and pot shotting his opponent. There is nothing Mayweather can do to discourage Ray, to make him back up... Floyd is a great defensive fighter but Ray will be throwing all night, though many, many will miss, enough will land to impress the judges.

I dont see this going to a decision. Leonard by TKO-providing Mayweather didnt have ll sorts of clauses in the contract eg Leonard to be tested every week, wear 12 ounce gloves, fight with one hand and above all be over 40 years old when they meet.

I have a bit more respect for Mayweather than you...He does have some scalps; De La Hoya, Mosley, Pacquiao, and Hatton.

I just don't believe he has anything to discourage Ray Leonard. Leonard certainly isn't afraid Mayweather can hurt him.

As I said before, this guy Pretty Boy Floyd does not has anything to beat none of the fab 4 of Duran, Hagler, Hearns and Leonard.

I don't think he could beat Donald Curry or the great Aaron Pryor

Floyd would have had major problems with a peak terry Norris imo,great defensive proponent that he is,he`s been fortunate to face fighters on the slide(de la hoya and mosley)and good fighters who just didn't have the extra required,he isn't in leonards league and hearns would have made short work of him

Mate you are spot on

I see a similar fight in prospect to Leonard -v- Benitez.

A very high skilled chess match with Leonard having to turn slugger, but I don't think he would have stopped Mayweather Jr as FMJ is a master at holding in close.

I think Leonard would have won a close but competitive decision.

It does show you the differences in eras that Floyd has never fought anyone like a prime Curry. That would've been a very interesting fight.

Leonard would stop him.

So much for Mayweather's supposed "defensive mastery" - his fights are becoming more and more like running away matches, rather than boxing fights. Floyd must have reversed about 40 times (2/3/4 times per round) on Saturday night...

He doesn't stay in close and move around his opponents, he's just blatantly moving directly backward these days, and that's not enough to keep Leonard or Hearns off of him.

Leonard by either a late stoppage or clear decision.

I'd personally like to see a comprehensive list of Floyd against the all-time 140, 147, 154 pounders in history.

It's too easy to "write him off" when you do hypotheticals with him matched against the likes of Leonard.

The great Pretty Boy Floyd is a borderline top 20 in my view, behind the great Sugar Ray Leonard. Floyd has not beaten NOBODY TO BE AWED ABOUT. The Pacman fight does not put him top 20, no way!

Those "scalps" for Mayweather are against three hasbeens and one never was.

Which is about where he should be. 4-1 against ATGs, in relevant fights, no other losses close to his prime. You aren't going to find a lot of guys better than that. Let crybaby excuses for Leonard's opponents begin.
