i found it very impressive how he handled being
rocked against shane. if you have a chance to watch
it on youtube … he grabbed the very hand that just
hurt him. this man has reflexes that are unheard of.
not his best fight, but a very great performance.

There are several fights that really stick out to me during the duration of Floyds illustrious career.

His first major win and great performance was against the long time reigning Super Featherweight champion Genaro Hernandez. Floyd was only 2 years into his pro career and fought a very game Hernandez who's is arguably one of the greatest Super Feather Weight champions ever. This was Floyds very first title fight. Floyd did beat a older Hernandez, but there was no better champion to dethrone at Super Featherweight at the time. Floyd proved he was ready for the big times very early in his career after completely dominating Genaro Hernandez in route to a 8th round RTD.

Only 2 months later Floyd stepped into the ring with the hard hitting Angel Manfredy. Every boxing enthusiast was clamoring for this fight and felt Manfredy had the tools to truly test Floydt like no one else had up to that point. Floyd caught Manfredy in the second round and rained down a flurry of unanswered punches in route to a 2nd round TKO.

Floyds next great win came against the undefeated and one of the hardest hitters P4P in boxing, Diego Corrales. Floyd was considered the underdog in this fight and most people felt there was a very good chance Floyd would be tasting the canvas. Not only did Floyd not taste the canvas he was hardly touched in route to a 10th round TKO after knocking down Corrales 6 times before his corner finally said enough and threw in the towel. Floyds combination of defense and offense in this fight was awe inspiring and it was obvious Floyd was destined to do great things in the sport of boxing. This is considered by many to Floyds greatest performance and one of the greatest performances in all of boxing.

Nearly 3 years and 6 fights later Floyd squared off against the hard hitting knock out artist from South Africa, Phillip N'dou. N'dou was on a 20 fight win streak knocking out 19 of his last 20 opponents with a combined record of 31(30)- 1(1)-0. You would have believed Floyd would have chose to box against such a dangerous puncher only to find out Floyd showed up to fight. This is one of Floyds most exciting fights where he puts his offense on full display. N'dou showed up as game as any fighter you could imagine, but Floyds combination of speed, accuracy and defense proved too much against the hard hitting South African in route to a 7th round TKO.

6 months later Floyd made his first move to the 140 lb. weigh division. Floyd was finally climbing to the top of the P4P ranks and wanted to prove something against the very game and experience Demarcus Corley. Corley was clearly the bigger man in this fight, so you'd figure Floyd would use his boxing ability to out point the bigger Corley. Floyd once again put on a offensive display and Corley proved to be a good test for the young Mayweather in his first trip to 140 lbs. Although Floyd took a few lumps, he proved his toughness in this fight. Although Floyd fell short of getting the KO after scoring 2 KDs in the fight, Floyd proved a point and showed he was a top player in the 140 lb. weight division.

Although Judah was coming off a lackluster performance against Baldomir, there was no boxer at the 140 lb. weight division that could match Floyds speed. Judah was a very talented fighter who seemed to have all the tools that might pose some serious problems for Floyd. Judah came out showing some great speed that seemed to have Floyd confused, but Floyd continued to move forward working the body knowing that Judah would more than likely slow down in the later rounds. As the fight wore on Floyd took complete control of the fight and seemed to be able tag Judah with straight right hands at will while walking him down. Although it's a common misconception that Judah got tired because he was Judah, but it's clear as day that Floyds early body work and his ability to cut off the ring and put a lot of pressure on Judah is what really did the job. It was the work of Floyd that tamed the very talented Judah. Once Floyd really began to tee on off Judah and looked as if Floyd was in route to stopping Judah, Judah in desperation landed a killer low blow followed by a very dangerous rabbit punch that created chaos in the ring and threatened the fight. Floyd didn't get the stoppage but Judah continued to pay for his dirty tactics, with Floyd toying and taunting Judah at the end of the fight with Judah desperately trying land something clean with no such luck.

Floyd finally got the fight he had been begging for for years against the PPV kind ODLH. This was Floyds first fight at 154 lbs. and Floyd was clearly the much smaller man in the ring. With the pre-fight taunting and trash talk, DLH was gunning to shut up the young brash Mayweather. DLH had some success early with his jab and some good work against Floyd on the ropes (although it was a lot of holding and hitting), Floyd eventually began to time DLH and Floyds speed and accuracy began to surface. Floyd had full control of the fight mid-way and had DLH reluctant to let his hands go. It was a close fight down the stretch but there was really little doubt that Floyd had done enough to earn the decision.

Floyd stepped in the ring against the undefeated Ricky Hatton. Hatton at this point was on a tear, he had previously dethroned the great Kostya Tsyzu and destroyed Jose Luis Castillo who was at the time considered Floyds toughest opponent to date. Hatton brought over a great group of fans from Manchester, England, and through the fight thick or thin continued to cheer "There's only one Ricky Hatton!!". Ricky Hatton went into that fight very hungry and was looking to maul Floyd. Ricky had some early success with his mauling tactics but was never really able to land any effective punches on Floyd. Throughout the fight Floyd was landing all the big shots and as the fight wore on Floyd began to let his hands go more and more. Hatton kept coming forward, applying pressure on Floyd. In the 10th round Floyd landed a perfectly time check - left hook that send Hatton face first into the turn buckle.. Hatton amazing beat the 10 count, but Floyd wasted no time to jump right back on Hatton to land 3 consecutive hooks before the referee stepped in and Hatton went stumbling across the ring for a 10th round TKO.

..... Floyd took a 2 year lay off.. To be continued!!
