Fully fledged "belt holder". World champion to me means best in your division.

Though after his win on Saturday, he does have a claim to be the best at 118lbs.

BUT if you asked me does he deserve to be a world champion after the weekend I'd say yes definitely. Similar to the Froch situation after he'd relinquished the IBF.

Wouldn't it have better if he'd relinquished his WBA 'Interim' thing and gone for the other lads 'full' WBO title?

I don't take any notice of that belt he has. The WBA is a joke. He showed he certainly belongs at world level though and then some. I read he's moving up so maybe him vs Quigg could be a possibility as they are both Matchroom fighters? Hearn doesn't really like his guys fighting each other though so who knows.

Two remarkable things about McDonnell.

1. He's been a really jammy sod with decisions.

2. (With respect) he's gone a long way with little talent. He's not an outstanding boxer, he's a very modest puncher, he's just very fit and works hard.

Every fight he has I'm sure the wheels are going to come off (I was certain he was in for a beating Saturday) but NO he wins yet again.

I think that is very impressive and still claiming world recognised belts, by just being fit and hard working! Good luck to him

What is a genuine world champion these days? Any world class fighter who holds a belt? Anyone who fairly won a full version of a major title? Only the best champion in the division?

I think Jamie is world class given who is at the weight, but in my view he's only beaten one top ten fighter and I think the WBC titleist Yamanaka is better than him. He gave a laudable performance against Kameda, but him winning IBF and WBA straps prior to that is reflective of how easy it currently is to win world titles without beating elite opponents, or fighters even close to that.

I don't know, did he beat Yamanaka, and I missed it?

I mean there's either one world champ, or there might as well be none.
