Tony Ayala Jr passes

San Antonio news reporting that Tony Ayala Jr has died. He was found slumped over this morning inside his family run Zarzamora Street gym.

I hate speaking ill of the dead.But in this case I just can't see it as a loss for anyone.

In some ways he was a success as a fighter---back in the 80s, many thought that as a young, overpowering wunderkind he was capable of defeating Roberto Duran---but few would deny that Ayala Jr. was a total failure as a human being.

Nevertheless, whatever your feelings about him, toll the 10 count for a fallen boxing warrior.

I wonder how Mike Ayala Jnr is doing? He could really box, hope he got off the drugs and is having a good life - they certainly had a rough time growing up.

Last I heard, he had kicked his drug habit and had a small HVAC business installing residential and commercial air conditioners. Lives in a small town south of San Antonio.
