Enough people watched, and Canelo looked both outstanding and exciting, that a rematch with Mayweather in September is a definite possibility.

Sell it as Canelo is now two years wiser and more polished, and Mayweather is just 2 years longer in the tooth.

It would easily surpass 2 million PPV buys and Mayweather would still get the kind of purse he wants---somewhere in the $100 million range.

Do you honestly think Floyd would do anything at this point and time to help Oscar?
Oscar has done nothing but bad mouth Floyd and now with the lawsuit that he filed against Haymon I see no chance of this happening

Last Saturday's fight between Canelo Alvarez and James Kirkland delivered the best rating that HBO has seen since Antonio Tarver vs Bernard Hopkins in 2006, delivering a peak of 2.296 million viewers, and an average of 2.146 million for the action-packed three-round brawl.

Am I imagining things, but since the PBC has been on air since the turn of the year, the knock-on effect is that the viewing figures for boxing is generally on the rise?

It was only a few weeks ago that the Klitschko-Jennings bout achieved the highest rating on HBO since 2012, but the Canelo-Kirkland bout surpassed the figures it achieved by the proverbial country mile.

I’m not being funny, but Canelo’s previous two outings before last Saturday’s brawl, weren’t hugely entertaining affairs. And James Kirkland is hardly a household name.

So we can probably assume that the media frenzy around the PBC and the Mayweather-Pacquiao super-fight has rejuvenated boxing somewhat.

Thoughts?
I don't think that is farfetched at all.

Quite astute actually.

I said in another thread how the PBC has a lot of casual folks watching.

I have no doubt this is helping HBO's and Showtime's bottom line.

Heck, you can see Showtime ads ON the PBC.

As a boxing fan, we should be doing a toast or two.

Boxing might be on its way back to something near what it used to be, when every schoolkid knew the name of the heavyweight champ.

I can guarantee that there won't be a rematch of this fight. Floyd can still produce big numbers facing Khan or Cotto, either of which would be a bigger purse than Canelo and at least one (Miguel) fight would net himself something making the fight worth more than just money. (MW Title)

I agree with KBB about Floyd's next opponent and I would add Swift Garcia as well.

But, Cotto trumps all of them.

He is the most money, maybe even more than a Pac rematch if the historical middleweight angle is hyped enough.

^That's an important point, about the middleweight title.

I mean, we might see it as Martinez' leg was completely fecked, and Golovkin is clearly the best fighter at 160. But to the average fan? You sell the "revenge" angle, the potential"six weight champion" angle for Floyd, the "lineal" middleweight title....If you want to sell it that way, could be big for sure.
