Who Will be Britain's No.1 Lightweight by the end of the year?

Its a big year for our Lightweights with 3 World title fights coming up, I don't know if Burns has plans to go back to LW but I thought I'd add him anyway.

So who will be the No.1 at the end of the year and how many, if any, World champions will we have?

Fingers crossed it will be Mitchell if he can beat Linares in couple of weeks and possibly hold onto the belt. Love Crolla and Flanagan too. Campbell could be the best of the lot given a couple more years.

What an impressive list. Imagine a world where they all fought each other. They'd retire minted.

I think when Campbell gets motoring (ie family issues put to bed) he'll be something special.

I really like Flanagan, he's big and strong and been improving massively. I didn't rate Campbell at first but i'm on the band wagon now, he's fast and skilled but think his big year will be next year.

Wish they were all signed to Warren as Eddie will charge us £17 when there is a World title at stake.

Maybe not a year from now but 18 months to 2 years I think Campbell will be head n shoulders above the rest. That being said he may have moved up in weight by then. Mitchell has a great chance to grab his first world title and I think he will. I like Flanagan but I don't know too much about the guy he's up against for his title shot. I wouldn't write Burns off either after his last performance. If he can do 135 he should be in the mix.

Campbell beats Coyle, Flanagan, Matthews, Cardle and Burns right now . .

In order:

Burns
Flanagan
Mathews
Crolla
Mitchell
Campbell
Cardle
Coyle

Would have Campbell higher but I can see him continuing to stagnate, because of issues outside the ring and the obsession with the Coyle fight.

Probably Mitchell if he wins will be rated number 1 but not the best, I think young Cool Hands takes this against any of them fighters listed hands down.

Shocked to see mitchell coming out on top. Can only think that's because people don't think the rest will get to European level!

If Mitchell manages somehow to beat linares, burns will smash him again and would fancy a couple of others too. No way he goes the year unbeaten against the top domestic opponents

I think they are both pretty shot but Mitchell keeps winning unlike Burns.

Burns has fought better fighters on the whole. If Mitchell tooks burns place last week I'd have backed him to get stopped. He flatters to deceive

I actually think Mitchell is the best at the moment,if he's got his head screwed on,he has the good blend of technical ability, power and experience to beat all they guys at the minute,I know Burns mustered a good performance last week but I think Mitchell would've beat Figueroa without getting into a messy fight or at least not as messy as last week

Granted Kevin has failed both times he stepped up but I don't think that means he still can't become a champ yet, anyone who can KO a prime John Murray in 8 rounds is tough

Is this the mysterious well prepared Kevin Mitchell I sometimes hear about?? If so then he's not just the best in Britain but the best on the planet possibly the best in the Galaxy I couldn't think of one Alien who would stand a chance.

It's Flannagan then Burns at the minute. Flannagan would beat Burns the rest would lose

Although I've voted for Luke Campbell I think it might be early next year when we actually see him proving it. I've rated him since I watched him drop world class amateurs with body shots especially that long left uppercut to the solar plexus! It is a sickening shot.

I personally don't see what others rave about with Terry Flanagan, he is ok at most things but not particularly great at anything.

Ricky Burns looked better at the weekend and could make some good money against the other lads his weight but I feel his time at the top level is gone.

Kevin Mitchell could well end the year as top dog if he beats Linares and I fancy him to beat Crolla if they ever met.

Anthony Crolla, never thought he was world class but a good honest pro that if the correct opportunity arose could nick a world belt! Let's see how he is on his return

The lightweight scene is buzzing though and if these guys can get it on then all is good!

The whole speil about Mitchell's dedication does bug me a bit especially when he claimed his head was right before he faced Burns then when he got beat, him,Eddie, Sky etc started claiming that this time he really is dedicated so I take it with a pinch of salt and judge him by his performances

He struggled with Maduma but he showed real grit and got the job done and I thought Maduma looked a real good fighter until he faded,he was strong, quick and accurate then against Estrada he was flawless really

Linares is a skillful fighter himself and can bang but if Kevin can land before before him then I don't know how Jorge will cope, especially at LW

I don't rate him sorry he's another Martin Gethin, and he'll get exposed soon as he steps up I fear.

All depends on how quickly Eddie moves Campbell along. If he swerves this Coyle fight and throws him in with either Mitchell or Crolla if they were to win then I'd say Luke would be #1 by the end of the year. Not sure how likely that is though.

I'm not sure if he is as limited as Martin Gethin but I really can't understand why people rate him so highly when he hasn't really beaten anyone to show he could be classed as British number 1. He might well prove to be the best come time but imo he gets beat by Mitchel,Crolla, Burns and Luke Campbell at the minute in Britain. Once he steps up he might be one of those fighters that boxes better against better opposition.

He beat Ormond who totally schooled Mathews. It's his style that makes him the best in my eyes. Awkward southpaw who is relentless. Very high work rate with a good chin. Only down side is he lifts his chin when jabbing a world class fighter will pick that off. Campbell is one of these fighters that are caught between weights. I think he would carry his power more at light welter or even welter. Can not see him fighting for titles at lightweight.

Do you rate Ormand that high? Didn't Derry break both of his hands against Ormond too?

I'm not saying that Terry cannot become the number 1 but he hasn't beat anyone yet that would give him the case to be number 1 right now.

Mitchell has his win over John Murray, Ricky was Lightweight world champion, Crolla has beat Gavin Rees, John Murray. that puts these 3 well above him imo, Luke Campbell style is all wrong for him imo

I personally think if they had a tournament now, Mitchell would win.
But Flanagan is improving with every fight and will likely be better than Mitchell in 12 months time.
Too early for Campbell.
