Povetkin by clear decision with Perez again fading markedly as the bout progresses, though I won't be surprised if Povetkin wins by late stoppage.

Perez was broken by his win over Mago. He may never be the same fighter again.

x2. Some fighters just never recoup from causing an opponent a life threatening injury or even death. They lose that killer instinct. I think Perez falls in this group.

To me it seems like conditioning has been more of a factor than killer instinct. He was beating Jennings and Takam after 5 but faded badly as the fight progressed.

I think he has lost something and the conditioning was just an added detriment.

It sure looks like it to me. I mean, he wasn't able to really bring enough intensity against either Jennings or Takam. He seems to have lost something.

I think Povetkin will beat him.

I agree -- his recent fades have more to do with conditioning than psychological trauma.

I see him giving Povetkin a lot of trouble.

Looking forward to this one, especially as on at 5:30pm Friday to watch on the box. Don't know much about Perez but looking through his record he doesn't stop many inside the distance. Would be interested in everyones opinion, but am leaning towards having a fun bet on Povetkin to win and a side bet on him to stop Perez as Povetkin has not heard bell in 4 of his last 5 fights.

Again, certainly not an expert on Boxing Promotional politics, but as a 35 year old fighter who has already tried himself against Klitschko will be interesting to see if his path crosses with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua at some stage a couple of years in the future.

I wouldn't bet on Povetkin stopping Pérez. Diminished since Mago or not, he's kind of a tank.

2 good fighters and its a good match up but I doubt it'll end up being Bowe-Holyfield,I just hope both guys turn up in shape and are motivated,if only 1 of them is in shape then I hope he gives the other a beat down,I'm sick of these well touted Heavyweights turning up as fat, flabby bastards and being well paid for the privilege

Perez seems to have something missing since the Abdusalamov fight,he laboured against Jennings and Takam whereas Povetkin's continued as before since the loss to Klitschko

Povetkin to win a wide UD though I suspect the cards will be harsh on Mike

Mike Perez is a seriously overrated fighter. The Cuban Connection must be working overtime to get him these big opportunities. He's just an ordinary guy.

Povetkin won't bring back memories of the 70s heavyweights, but he's quite a few levels above Perez.

The fight won't be close and Povetkin won't need the home-country advantage should the bout go to the cards.

But it won't. Povetkin by stoppage in 8.

Oddmakers make the Russian a solid 4 1/2 - 1 favorite.
I'd give 50-1 underdog Eric Molina a better chance of upsetting Wilder than I do of Perez upending Povetkin. And I don't give Molina any chance at all.

Ridiculous to say Molina has a better chance of winning than Perez. How could you even type that?

I am not sure why everyone is fixated on Perez's mental state after crippling Abdusalamov. The fact is, after that fight, he drew with Takam, who beat Thompson. I think when you look at Mike Perez as a whole, he is something like #12 in the division. That's just how good he is, regardless of what factors are at work to get him there.

I find Povetkin to be a favorite in this match-up. Povetkin doesn't always dominantly outpoint his opponents, though, and if he can't score the KO, then this could end in a fairly close decision. Judges will probably give him "the benefit of the doubt," though. I am also just generally pleased with this fight, because for Povetkin to be on a streak of fighting and possibly beating Charr, Takam, and Perez all in a row; that is a lot for someone who isn't even a champion.

Fully expect Povetkin to win a clear decision in a competitive scrap. To win in Russia, Perez needs to score a KO. And that's not very likely. He wont win a decision there unless he beats Povetkin widely and he's not good enough to do that.

May as well have you used your toes. Didn't use your brain.

Perez is a 3-1 dog. Molina will be a 60-1 dog.

The betting odds give Perez a 21% chance to win and Molina about a 3.5% chance to win.

The sad thing is... Molina would barely even have a chance against Perez. In a more ideal world, it would be Povetkin vs Wilder, Perez vs Fedosov, and Molina vs Donovan Dennis. But the way they're doing it now makes for a bigger, more climactic showdown between Povetkin and Wilder, if that materializes. Still wish Wilder was fighting someone like Cunningham, Thompson, Tarver, or Szpilka, though.

Prior to Wilder-Molina being made I suggested Molina as a step-up opponent for prospect Charles Martin, thinking that Martin would likely win that fight but get more of a test than he's used to. In my opinion good match-ups involving Molina would be against people like Martin, Fedosov/Dennis, and Derrick Rossy, not a solid contender like Perez or a top 3-5 type like Wilder.

Does Robert Garcia train Perez now ?

Was so lazy against Jennings though and Povetin has been fighting like he has a point to prove recently.

Going to go Povetkin KO between 9-12

the consitioning might have to do with the lack of Motivation too. if you don't want to punish your Opponent in the ring it is also hard to motivate yourself in training.

that is kinda sad as perez is technically a very well schooled fighter but as a shorter fighter with medium punching power he is going to Need Fitness and "killer instinct" to succeed.

it is not that perez Looks totally lost. he had Close fights against a good fighter Jennings and solid takam despite being out of shape of lacking aggressiveness in the ring, he still does hang in there but the last 5-10% are missing.

his technical ability and head movement will prevent him from getting steamrolled by AP but I see him losing a decision like 116:112.
