GGG spoiler

6th round stoppage win for GGG last night, Monroe Jnr was brave, getting up from 2 kd's in the 2nd round, after that he stopped moving so much and had some success in catching GGG in the 4th and 5th. But ultimately you could see that Golovkin was far to strong for him.
Quick knockdown at the start of the 6th and the fight was out of Monroe, the ref was a bit odd for me, as he counted to 10, then said 'You were just up, do you want to continue?'
Monroe should of been spared having to shake his head no.

I fooking hate that ref,he's always getting big gigs too he almost always has to do something to be noticed and clearly has his favs, probably the reason he gets the big fights

No problem with what the ref did. Either get up user stay down, don't try and get up at 10.5 and leave a possible question as to the stoppage. Either stay down until it's waved off, or get up.

I know it's harsh but it helps clear up those situations like Scott vs Chisora and Cazares vs Frampton.

I know I'm in the minority though.

Great job by ref. If you want to quit just stay down. Dont you know what clowns would be saying if ref waved it off, that it was premature. Remember Chisora v Malik.

Monroe Jr clearly didn't want to carry on but fighters pride wouldn't let him plain out quit, nothing wrong with quitting in a fight, especially as he was taking shots from the most feared puncher in boxing so what Willie did and a lot of boxers do it,is "mis time" the count, that way they get out and they can blame the ref, everyone can see what's going on but its fighters pride

So Monroe got up late, but the ref delayed the count and you even seen Monroe go to go back down after he realizes Jack was gonna let him continue despite him not beating the count so Monroe had to quit himself

Terrible refereeing and shouldn't be forgotten just because GGG went on to win, if somehow Monroe had got up to win that fight there would be uproar and rightly so

He wanted out but didn't want to look like he was quitting. Should have stayed down if he didn't want to go on.

Ref did not delayed the count, nor was he counting slow, Monroe got up on the count ten. Maybe he did not beat the count by a fraction of a second, but clearly intentionally. If you cant continue, stop pretending, its not refs job to save fighter from embarrassment. BTW I dont think Monroe has anything to be embarrassed about, he showed lot of courage in the fight.

Listen to the count again,Jack clearly hesitates between 9 and 10,Monroe should've been counted out,its not the refs duty to give fighters favours

Admittedly its irrelevant now and I'm not fussed either way but I just hate that referee and won't miss an opportunity to stick the boot in

Ref's are wise to fighters getting up on 10 then blaming the ref for waving it off.

Golovkin is an amazing talent.

Yup Jack "The Butcher" Reiss should not be refereeing any fight given his complete disregard for fighters safety in past bouts. Years back he damn near let one fighter get killed. Terrible, terrible referee.

Fair enough. I did not like Rees also but he seems to be doing a better job recently. Or maybe he looks good in comparison to Cole and Foster. :)

Foster's a great referee,he just happened to make a bad call on the big stage whereas Reiss and Cole have previous yet continue to get big fights :TU:

GGG done the business again but im gonna have to admit that I fancy Canelo to beat him it happens. He is relying on his power too much and willing to sacrifice rounds to land the big shots. If Canelo could handle his power then Id fancy him to take it on the cards.

They said afterwards that they pretty much carried Monroe to give the fans something to watch after the Rubio blowout. If he'd blown him away, the next mediocre opponent would have been very hard to shift tickets for.

160 is very light now, with the rankings changing all the time but GGG aside, nobody dominating the rest.

The ring have it:

top- Cotto ( ring belt )
1. Golovkin
2. Andy Lee
3. Quillen
4. Geale
5. N'Dam
6. Murray
7. Jermain Taylor (loony bin)
8. BJS
9. Daniel Jacobs
10. Chris Eubank Jr

I suppose bubbling outside the rankings you have Heiland and Lemieux, but otherwise that is everyone.

Dmitry Pirog was a contender, but he vanished since 2012 following a back injury. I think he's managing fighters now instead.

Its been clear for a while that the dropoff after GGG leaves a chasm between him and whoever is no2 at MW

Triple G is steam rolling through opponents. Didn't like his post fight bull about letting Monroe back in (even if its true), it lacked class.
Some great match ups await.. :bag:

Why do that if you're going to tell everyone about it?

Golovkin wasn't very impressive last night.

Is there a particular Canelo performance that makes you think he'd beat GGG?

GGG wasn't especially impressive last night but I still think he'd beat Canelo in addition to beating Canelo opponents like Lara and Trout more convincingly than the Mexican did.

Golovkin should probably fight Lara next, since I don't think there's anyone better who's interested.

True he did pause. He also asked if he wanted to continue and Monroe replied 'I'm done'

Damn right, he's a effing liability that ref, that fight you mention was beyond belief and it's not a case of the man lacking experience, it's just a case of the man lacking any type of empathy or intelligence at all.
He doesn't read situations at all well, plus he's got a massive ego and he seemed to have no idea last night that a very brave fighter had had enough, and didn't want to be forced to do the one thing any boxer doesn't want to do, and that's say I quit.

Just check how the dumb f*** lets a completely gone Chris Arreola stagger up for a brutal and dangerous KO against Stiverne. Shockingly bad referee.

Within 2 seconds of a knockdown he's yelling 'look at me' to the downed boxer. His job is to count, not direct the boxer during the count.

Wasn't one of GGGs best outings but he got the stoppage against a decent fighter and that's what matters. I'm glad he's keeping active but he needs a challenge to stop him going through the motions and unfortunately I don't see that happening til next year which is sad! Looks like Canelo and Cotto (if he gets by Geale!) will fight later in the year! I love Cotto but the best thing for GGG would be for Geale to spring the upset and that would free Canelo up! Would love to see that.

Would the Canelo fight be at middleweight if happened?
