I've never really seen many of Harry's fights but know he was a good counterpuncher and was often in good scraps.

Can anyone fill me in about Harry please?

I always got the feeling that Arroyo was only a modestly talented 80s fighter, but the networks showcased. him because he was somewhat entertaining and, more importantly, he was white.

Kind of explains why fellow Ohio native Mancini got so much pub, and even a mediocre talent like Charlie "White Lightening" Brown was in a televised spot every other month.

This was the age of Gerry Cooney, after all.

There were a lot of good but not great lightweights around this time, some of them white. There were some fun fights to watch. Arroyo was decent. He was on TV a lot for while. He never did much after losing the title and seemed to disappear. Then boxing itself got less and less network TV coverage as the 1980s went on.

There was some talk of him fighting Mancini, which would have made sense if the fight was in Youngstown where they both were from. However it never materialized. Mancini would probably have beaten him.

I always felt that Mancini would probably have made short work of Arroyo, stopping him within 6. While I never felt that Manicini was as good as his hype, he was on a different level from Arroyo.

Thinking back there several other white lightweights that NBC loved to spotlight during the 80s. Names like Pazienza, Haugen, and Robin Blake.
Of course, Paz and Haugen made some legit impact on the boxing scene, but I felt that there was some effort made to showcase white fighters.
