Flanagan v Zepeda WBO Lightweight title

Looks set for Manchester Veladrome 11th July. Undercard to include Butler, Catterall, Stalker etc as the Liverpool card is moved over to Manchester.
He missed weight so he wasn't able to win the title in his fight with Takahiro Ao earlier this month.Alba wrote:i thought beltran was the wbo champion at lightweight?
I know it's the WBO & therefore subject to no written rules whatsoever but as far as I can tell Zepeda has never fought at the lightweight limit (going off his record) & the last time he was within a couple of pound of it was in 2013.Naandrew wrote:Really curious about Zepeda. He has had his recent fights as a Welterweight so how has he got a title fight at Lightweight ?
Can he even make the weight ?
Really don't know what to expect just hope Terry does the business.
I was wondering about that myself! When I first heard about the fight I tried to look this guy up and only guy I could find was a welter and hadn't seemed to have campaigned at lightweight at all. I just put it down to me being a muppet and looking at the wrong guy lol.Naandrew wrote:Really curious about Zepeda. Watched clips of him today agree really don't know what to expect.Datsue wrote:I know it's the WBO & therefore subject to no written rules whatsoever but as far as I can tell Zepeda has never fought at the lightweight limit (going off his record) & the last time he was within a couple of pound of it was in 2013.Naandrew wrote:Really curious about Zepeda. Also, I can't tell from his many quick KO wins whether the boy's any good or not. He flattened Cayo, who never had much punch resistance & has had what little there was beaten out of him, but he is one of those guys who doesn't seem to hit that hard (until his opponents crumple).
He also hangs his chin out to dry & crosses over his feet all the time, lousy fundamentals.
Bizarre one.
Is it too cynical to say that i wouldn't be surprised if that's true and expected, with a replacement already lined up to step in at v short notice to 'give' Flanagan an opponent to beat for the title?Old bones Ian wrote:No ones really hit Zepeda back yet, he could be the real deal, but the weight making could be hard for him
I can forsee a late pullout or him weighing in couple of pounds over the limit
Was only a few ounces over last week by the sound of things so I can't see him struggling to make the weight, but if he's already down there then either he isn't a big lightweight, or he's going to be seriously drained by the time he gets in the ring.freddydoesdallas wrote:Is it too cynical to say that i wouldn't be surprised if that's true and expected, with a replacement already lined up to step in at v short notice to 'give' Flanagan an opponent to beat for the title?Old bones Ian wrote:No ones really hit Zepeda back yet, he could be the real deal, but the weight making could be hard for him
