Final Thoughts On ESPN2's Final Show

I thought this would have been a thread, but I didn't see it, so I'll start it.

1) Pleasant surprise to show Povetkin-Perez. Great win for Povetkin.

2) Dennis was MUCH better than I thought he was, even though Fedosov stopped him. I am happy both Povetkin's win and Fedesov's win weren't controversial. No early stoppages and no bad decisions were also pleasant surprises.

3) The guy who had only 1 KO in 13 fights was a bit more entertaining than I thought he'd be, even though ESPN2 stayed to the very end showing undercards with guys who can't break eggs.

4) The crying and nostalgia about the last show bordered on Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Glad my TV has a mute button.

Discuss....

I haven't watched it yet, probably will later today and when I do I believe I will be able to say I have watched every single episode of this series.

When this show started if I couldn't watch the live broadcast I would set the old vcr to record it. Used to have a lot of vhs tapes laying around with FNF episodes on them. I no longer own anything that will play a vhs tape so they were all given away. When dvr came along I just set that to record FNF whether I could watch it live or not. There were times when it took me two or three weeks to get around to watching an episode but I'm fairly certain I have seen them all.

Loved this show from the start, FNF had it all, great fights, garbage fights, boxers in their 4 round pro debut to 12 round title fights to boxers that really, really should not be in the ring anymore.
They would travel all over, usually in small arenas that were sometimes packed with a lively crowd sometimes in an empty arena that appeared to have less than 10 spectators.
Always liked the format of the show having the studio segment between fights with Brian and Max. Later on it was Brian and guest then eventually Grisham until they shut it down.
Brian was great in the studio, I don't think espn could have picked a better host for the show. I like Todd too, he doesn't have BK's knowledge but he was steadily improving. imo he is a good commentator.
Teddy and Bob ringside for a few years then Joe came along.
imo Tessitore was terrible at first but steadily improved and imo is one of if not the best boxing commentators on American tv.

I am sad to see this series coming to end but it is not the of the world.

Off the top of my head here are my favorite episodes of espn2 FNF fights over the years:

Brian Minto vs Vinny Maddalone
Herman Ngoudjo vs Randall Bailey
Julian Letterlough vs Demetrius Jenkins
Micky Ward vs Emanuel Augustus.
Delvin Rodriguez vs Pawel Wolak
Julian Letterlough vs Julio Cesar Gonzalez
Emanuel Augustus vs Ray Oliveira
Jesse Feliciano vs Vince Phillips

These fights come to mind right away, I'm sure I could name a lot more if wanted to take the time to verify I saw X fight on espn FNF and not some other network

Wow, your memory is much better than mine, but after you brought them up, I remembered a lot of the above. The show had the good, the bad, and the ugly. I have some mixed feelings on Teddy. Smart guy who knows the sport, but he's like Foreman as a commentator in that if he liked the fighter personally, he'd never say anything bad about them.

Just got around to watching it and imo FNF went out with a damn good show.
4 decent scraps with 3 ko's.

The guy that starred in the short lived TNT(or Spike) series called Lights Out was sitting in the audience behind Joe and Teddy.
They were in a small venue that was empty at first but it ended up with a decent crowd, kind of typical for FNF.

i thought the card delivered action wise but the level of action wasn't too high... exactly like the serie was in the last few years.

I think FNF peaked around 04-06…during that span they had a ton of evenly matched fights, some all out brawls and some prospects being upset. Last few years it lost it's way because of budget cuts.
