Johnny Nelson hyping the PPV conjob

"I'm worried about Kell Brook. I think he's maybe complacent. I'm not even worried about Mitchell I think he'll pull it off, but I worry about Brook".

Can we report him to the ASA for that one? It's clear that this "pay per view" is aimed towards casuals/football fans, who won't have a clue about this mismatch, the likes of Nelson selling this as a competitive bout is just shameless, cringeworthy to watch.

As much as we all moan about PPV,people continue to buy them so sky will continue to do it,Nelson's only doing his job though to be fair to him, don't buy them and he won't have anything to promote.

Pundit selling an event shocker

Whats annoying about this PPV is that it is a good card.

I wasnt annoyed with Cleverly Bellew 2 as it was rubbish, so I wasnt that fussed about not being able to watch it. (I did go fishing in the end).

But this card I really want to see as it has a couple of great fights on. I dont really think Brook Gavin should be the headline fight, I would prefer a main event of Mitchell Linares, with Selby Gradovich supporting, and then Brook Gavin before that.

That's what a PPV should be.

I genuinely don't see this PPV as a con (unlike the Bellew v Clev one), but maybe thats the era I've grown up in.

I have no issue with this being a PPV. The issue with the Clev Vs Bellew fight is that the rest of the card were 99/1 fights. This card actually contains a couple of good fights in it, and some slight intrigue on whether AJ can stop Johnson or not. I have no interest in the main event, but would love to watch the rest.

I fast forwarded through all of ringside last night other than the Ed Robinson/James Degale bits.

Adam smiths naturally always been a Sky mouthpeice/hype job but now pretty much all their regular 'pundits' are. Nelsons probably the worst, time they shook it up a bit more I definitely prefer it with people like Jamie Moore and especially Alex Arthur on. Mind you Alex says it how it is regardless so Sky have probably veto'd him.

Yeah, I mean I am interested in the Brook fight as I am a big fan of his, but as a card it's quality. I'd rather there were no PPV's to be honest, but there are going to be, so I'd rather support the good ones.

Nelson is dreadful as a pundit I respected him as a boxer but he is just annoying as a pundit. As for the card it looks like one of hearns better efforts overall.

I really like Nelson when he is being himself on IFL TV. He seems a really good character.

When he is doing his Sky work it seems a lot more forced.

I can afford it, I'm interested in most of the fights - the main event is a mis match (PPV's should be all about the main event IMO)

I am literally not paying for it out of principal, because it paves the way for the future - I'm going fishing

Sadly, I'm pretty sure this one will sell better than Clev v Bellew

He's very uneasy when presenting himself and makes a few mistakes.

Why shouldn't it?

I disagree. A ppv should be for an event that cannot be funded in any other way, a genuine superfight. All of these fights could be funded in a different way ie headline act on a saturday night card.

This isn't a spectacularly 'stacked' card, it's 3 fighters who are sell a few but not loads of tickets. They are not going to be expecting £10m purses or a percentage of the ppv as they are not stand out stars

Because it's headlined by Frankie Gavin?

Cringeworthy from Nelson, as ever. Such a shill for Sky it's embarrassing.

No it isn't. It should be about showcasing a box office fighter. A piece of me died when Bellew Vs Cleverly was made PPV. It was a fight no one wanted to see that could have been made without PPV money to find out who was the 3rd best Cruiser in the UK. An embarrassment to the legacy of PPV of old.

Clev Bellew 2 PPV was a disgrace. Undercard was shocking as well. It's a shame Brook V Gavin is PPV but with that undercard, it's far from a disgrace IMO.

Its not a disgrace but its not worthy of PPV. Its a couple of good Friday Fight Nights rolled into one IMO.

This is about right i think.

Its been a long time since i decided to not buy a ppv, however i think I'm going to be able to resist this one. I agree its not all about even fights, but in some cases more about the headlining act. However, I'm just not feeling this sadly. still time for me to crumble..

The Cleverly PPV was awful, and was always going to be so.

I've said this before, you are far more likely to be let down on PPV if you pay to see one 'box office' fighter. This card should give it's moneys worth

Just ordered it there and it was 14.95. I'm with Virgin. Why do Sky customers have to pay more when it is a Sky event or is it the same price across the board?

Thing is I'm sure Nelson would like to be taken seriously as a commentator and pundit, rather than just a huckster salesman talking bollocks for his paycheque. By all means say this could be an interesting fight, that will showcase Frankies skills and tell us how far Brook has progressed, that would at least give you some credibility with the fans.
