Tim Henman. I don't know why but I just hate that bloke. Something to do with him being a pencil-necked, limp-wristed, personality-free superhero who you just know will never win a grand slam but who sends millions of 'tennis fans' (another sub-breed who should be systematically culled) into Henmania (a phrase which itself makes my skin crawl) and fills the sports pages with more hopes waiting to be dashed.

I heard him do an hour on the radio as a guest DJ last year. One sentence and you know that he wears brown y-fronts with piss-yellow seams.

as for drinking vodka with a pole its true mate, i was totally bolloxed lost three hours of my life on business trip int he evening, told some french guy to bollox though so wasnt all bad. tho he did deserve it.
That takes quite a lot of booze cos I like a beer. They have toasts in between toasts, like whats this one in aid of, oh we are drinking to the potatoe god that helped make this wonderful drink, thing is youre so pished that go along with it "to the potatoes"........... Great people though, very friendly, resiliant proud people in the face of some quite awful treatment over the years by all their neighbours.
And if ever you get he chance to go to Kracow GO! wonderful place. Stunning.

One point that Frank made was that the money requested by some of the bigger names could only be satisfied by pay-per-view. Now, a lot of people have slated Frank making predictions of how he'll make Hatton fights pay-per-view somewhere along the line.

Hardly. Frank thinks it going to be difficult getting pay-per-view money for a fighter with no terrestrial TV coverage. Nas and Lewis had wider terrestrial coverage than Hatton has now. If he could make money from it, he would. But he knows he can't and while he can't he can't easily generate the revenue for the bigger names.

But Frank is not just the victim of course. He's decided to stick in Manchester for so long. No-one in the US will pay for the fights as Frank has neglected to build Rickys US profile. Only now does he talk of putting on shows in the US. I think this is the way forward to generate the money that attracts the bigger names.

This is my view on Hatton. I can't be bothered with Calzaghe to be honest.

Something I cannot understand (and I have asked it before) is how did Barry Hearn get the WBC title (and Inchin Chi) to fight here twice in the last 12 months, and Mikie can only half fill the M.E.N.

Warren is saying he'll need PPV to afford the big guys, how did Barry do it? Okay, it could have been seen as a financial gamle that didn't pay off the first time - but to do it for a second time shows to me (and Hearn is successful) that he was still in pocket - and that was with a half full arena.

And Guru I do agree I dont really hate henman, more intense dislike, and he has personally wronged me as I have to put up with all the gals the office shouting for tosspot. I cant even bear to have him on the tv for a plsit second.

It only seems like yesterday that FW was the new kid on the block and shaking up Duff and Astair with his shows in Russell Square. Now he has become everything he professed to dislike about them.

Lot's of fighters change promoters to get the good fights. Nigel Benn went to the US to get the big fights. These guys are just our equivalents of Ottke or Tony Lopez. 40 + fights againts nobodies in front of undiscerning worshiping crowds three miles from where they live

Both are decent fighters, but JC is already past his best and Hatton has about another year to make the most of it.

I read somewhere that Hatton is worth about £5million now and JC not much less, so I guess in some terms they are having successful careers. But, in 10 or even 5 years time, who will even remember them?

I'm afraid there are some rather inaccurate statements in here.

The USA won't stage PPV's because they want the fights on at a time that is suitable for US audiences, not delayed broadcast, because it kills the impetus to buy a PPV, when you can get the results from fightnews 2 minutes after the conclusion of the fight, then watch a re-run for free, or get a mate to tape it. If Ricky or Joe went to the USA on a co-promotion they would both be on PPV. Calzaghe is a well known fighter, and Hatton has had lots of fights on shobox, so he is pretty well known. Jay Larkin told me that American audiences LOVE hatton fights, because of the drama of their setting, and they love his style of fighting too.

It's not a matter or profile, Hatton could go to America tommorow, and participate in a massive fight with Gatti, Mayweather, Judah etc, all of which would be highly profitable, as to why that isn't happening, you would have to ask sports network.

In defence of Tim Henman

As i'm sure you are all aware, there has been a recent breakout of anti-Tim posts on this site. Therefor i would like to speak up in defence of the tennis idol, and offer my support to him and his many fans in this most critical time of the year for Tim.

Tim is not, as people have suggested, a loser. Quite the opposite in fact. He has won 11 ATP tour titles, including the coveted masters series title in Paris at the end of last season. He has also featured in three grand slam semi-finals, and has been a solid top ten player for a number of years now. His current ATP ranking is number 7 in the world. Perhaps you would like me to run that last bit past you again, out of every man around the world that plays tennis, he is the 7th best.

Maybe Tim's middle class upbringing is not to everyone's taste, but all i can say to you is that Tim had no choice in the way he was brought up and more than this, he is proud of his heritage and his middle England background.

Lastly we come to the subject of "Tiger" Tim's personality. Again it is not Tim's fault that he is a nice guy. My contention is that Tim is exceptionally brave and courageous for being the man he is and not the man his detractors wish him to be. I'm sure that if any of you were given the chance to meet Tim you would find him to be charming, witty, engaging company.

Now this sort of comment is common on the forums and come from an interpretation the 'boxing public' that I just don't agree with.

Forum users are always going on about how recent shows are conning the 'boxing public' who want to see more interesting fights. Nope. The people who are missing out are the Boxing Die-hards/enthusiasts/fanatics. These people have a very small amount of power in boxing. It's the ordinary punters, those who have heard of Tyson, Lennox and Nas, they are the ones with the power. It's their money that is wanted.

When Javid Khaliq fights, it's the 400 pakistani Taxi drivers. When Hatton fights, it's the 3,000 pissed up Manc with their tarts. They hold the power as far as Audience (&PPV) is concerned.

American audiences LOVE Hatton? English audiences barely know who Hatton is (remember, I'm not talking about ordinary sport lovers, not Boxrec forum users). American Boxing Press probably loves Hatton. American knowledgeable fans probably love Hatton, but the wider public (who's buy in you need to make PPV work)??? No way, I don't believe that.

PPV is about general sports fans paying to watch boxing. It's not about boxing fans.

Look at the PPV in this country. Pretty much the only PPVs since Nas have been for the HW Championship or Tyson. These are big names. Hatton does not fall into this category in this country or the US. Ever heard Hatton's name mentioned in the Sports round up of the National News...ever? He is simply not big time.
