I think it's one of the smartest and most respectful interviews given.

He is experienced enough to know what works for him, but he also appreciates that Virgil can still have valuable input into his camp, fights and career.

Khan is just making excuses of why he and Algieri had a close fight when it should have been a dominating win. Certainly it couldn't be him or that is just isn't that good to begin with - there must be someone else to blame. A trainer can only do so much. He will keep throwing out excuses and hope the public buys it so they won't laugh when he brings up Mayweather's name as a possible opponent.

Khan is right. Hunter tries to make Ward out of him. Maybe it has saved Khan from being stopped, but it made him boring and pretty mediocre.

It's never Khan's fault, is it? Have you ever heard him take blame for a performance? He practically blew Virgil Hunter in their first post fight interview together trying to explain to the world that it was Roach's fault that he failed in a few bouts in the past. He praised Hunter up and down and the first time he gets into a struggle in the ring, he points to the his trainer. It's turning into a broke record with this kid.

I must say that it was surprising to see that Hunter/Khan had no Plan B in this Algieri fight. You had to consider that Algieri would fight a little differently while working with Jackson for the first time. They looked puzzled in the corner and that's surprising and i guess that does fall onto the shoulders of the trainer.

But after a while, you have to just call BS on someone that continues slinging it year after year. I'm calling it here on Khan. He said the same thing about Roach with how hard training camp was. The kid is just a punk and has been given everything in his life. Sick of him.

Khan says: 'I was flat in that ring and the first half of the fight was tougher for me than it should have been. I will ask Virgil his opinion as to why I did not have my usual speed, power, strength and snap.

'But in part I must become my own boss now. Virgil is a great trainer and he will be in my corner next time. But I know myself and my own body better than anyone and it is my take on it all which will decide where we go from here.

'I left too much in the gym.'

He says: 'I need to go back to being the old Amir Khan. All my career I've trusted my trainers and I've done everything the way they ask. But it's time to remember that it was my free flowing ability which got me to two world titles and now to the brink of a super-fight with Mayweather.'

Khan said: 'I know that with our respective styles I can give Floyd problems – but it has to be by me fighting the way that comes naturally.

'Virgil has added things to my boxing and can continue to do so but basically I have to be myself. Virgil taught Andre Ward very well over many years but I am not the same fighter as Andre. What works for him doesn't necessarily work for me. I must make the most of my own talents.'

Khan confirms that his relationship with Hunter – who is widely respected within the community of the prize-ring - remains strong but he does have a history of changing trainers.

Thoughts? :??
i think his own ways proved to be wrong
at top level. the maniac aggressive style
is very crowd pleasing, but it looks like
that on top level people can counter it
sooner or later.

abandoning the ways that brought him
back to top level seems like a terrible
move to me. no box can outfight every
opponent. this interview seems to indicate
that amir still hasn't learned that lesson.

totallyagree, the most telling point being that he has been given everything his entire life. spoilt brat. they even give him opponents who cant punch, to make him look good, and when he doesnt perform ....he throws his toys out of the pram. .
when he can no longer blame so called racist fans , or useless world class trainers, or strange men in hats.......he might acually look in the mirror and accept he's not got what it takes.
put him in with brook and we will finally hear the end of amir 'king khant.

first off khan seems to blame others all the time when he mucks up but i i think he's not chosen wisely with trainers roach was to aggressive for khan who's just not that physically tough to fight like cotto or manny then hunter who's completely negative which isn't khan either some one like buddy mcgirt would suit khan more a bit of attack and a bit of defence not 100% either way
