It appears as if we have moved away from the era where people having 30-0 records was essential to them moving on to world level or even being taken seriously at higher level of the sport.
This past Saturday 2 unbeatens put their 0 on the line in evans vs cardle.
Taking brook, joshua and the debutant out the equation and no one else left the ppv with an unbeaten record. Mitchell has lost 3 yet his star has never been brighter, selby has a loss, Ryder and Blackwell are considered up n comers but have a few losses apiece.

I for one thinks this is far healthier for competition. James degale saying the other day his 0 is gone so he just wants the very best fights was a breath of fresh air.

Aye, I certainly hope so. The unbeaten thing is overrated, it always was.

IMO It's not being "unbeaten" that matters, it's who you beat. If you do as Mayweather and Gonzalez have done then all the credit in the world too ya, if you do something similar to Petch Sor Chitpattana then you should expect to have people roll their eyes when talking about you.

I don't think the media has changed though. After Wlad beat Byrant Jennings Bunce was banging on about how many unbeaten boxers Wlad had beaten. How did being unbeaten make Pianeta and Wach worthy opponents? In the build up to Mayweather-Pacquiao for some reason Sky saw reason to produce a graphic showing how many unbeaten opponents Pacman had beaten. I'm amazed that they somehow found that relevant.

I havent heard of either before, or even seen either guy fight. But American and British must be itching at the chance of getting one of their guys a chance at the winner of this.

Watched Ik Yangs last fight. He is a bit mental but good to watch.

IK Yang is/was managed or promoted by Chauncy Welliver and has followed a similar path of cherry-picked opponents and accumulation of trinket belts...

As others have said, being unbeaten only really matters when taken in the context of the opposition. Brian Nielsen got to 47 or 48 fights before losing but who of note did he ever face?

He had already lost before he fought Tyson, Norris and Holyfield though, so you would have to take them out of his undefeated run anyway.
