No pharmacy would help Cotto in this one. GGG by destruction.

Cotto beat a 180lber and he only weighed 153.6, not bad but GGG is no pushover and won't be in retreat mode which renders Miguel (a much smaller man) to his counterpunching and we all saw he was not able to be successful vs a smaller MP even though Cotto was weight drained he still was unable to mount an effective countering game.

Freddie wanted Cotto to go forward for a reason, he won't have that advantage vs Golovkin.

Cotto has the skills and power to test GGG but Miguel would succumb to the punishment by the later rounds

Cotto has no shot shot in beating GGG.

At 160, it would be a total mismatch. Golovkin would destroy Cotto, and Cotto & Roach both know it. The fight will never ever happen for that reason.

I already posted that it won't happen at 160. The OP is the one who asked the question. You are a tad behind the curve on this one.

I already posted that it won't happen at 160. The OP is the one who asked the question. You are a tad behind the curve on this one.

Didn't care for the unrealistic scenario posed by the OP.

And my replies to you were more for general consumption than a specific reply when we were already in agreement about likely reality.

But that doesn't change the logic.

Cotto and GGG may both own versions of the 160 lb crown.

But Miguel is the lineal and the A-side.

There is no way a fight between them happens with GGG allowed to come in at the middleweight limit.

I'd bet on a fight between them happening at 154 before that.

Remember that was the weight he weighed in at, not a fight night weight. I have not heard what he was, but Roach did say he would be in the 166lb range.

Anyone that has cut a lot of weight knows there is definitely a limit of what you gain back when severely cutting. Gaining 25lbs of water weight over-night isn't necessarily a good thing. I don't think Geale would have won if it was at full 160, but it would have certainly looked like a credible win at least.

The JR MIDDLEWEIGHT limit is 147-154 so he didn't come in BELOW the limit he came INSIDE the limit.

Cotto loses by stoppage late, but he has his moments. I think it's a real fight.

The junior middleweight limit is 154. There are upper weight limits, not lower weight limits. A junior middleweight fight could very well take place between two guys weighing 146. It obviously isn't likely, but it's possible. To put it another way, a fight between Lara and Andrade wouldn't suddenly become a welterweight fight if one or both fighters came in at 146. The fight would still be for a junior middleweight title, assuming one was on the line.

So yeah, Cotto came in below the junior middle limit because again, there aren't lower limits. There is only a limit of 154 for a junior middle. Though I guess you could also say "inside" the limit if you like. Inside and below are basically the same thing here.

Before someone comes in and points out that if a fighter was dangerously underweight it might not go ahead, sure, but I can't even remember that ever happening. And it wouldn't be down to anything official, just someone using common sense to decide Ivan Calderon shouldn't fight Saul Alvarez, which we don't see because of aforementioned common sense.

The JR MIDDLEWEIGHT limit is 147-154 so he didn't come in BELOW the limit he came INSIDE the limit.

1) 147 is the welterweight limit. Anything over 147 is where jr middleweight starts.
Technically speaking, I can fight for the welterweight belt even if I weigh just 130 lbs as long as I can get such a fight signed.
2) 154 is the jr. middleweight limit. Anything over 154 is where middleweight starts.
Technically speaking, I can fight for a jr. middleweight belt even if I weigh just 110 lbs as long as I can get such a fight signed.

153.6 is BELOW the jr. middleweight limit of 154. But I can fight for a middleweight belt weighing that as well.

GGG is the WBC's mandatory defense, and cotto already agreed on that in order to be allowed
to defend against geale first. if cotto doesn't fight GGG he will be stripped, and he already said
canelo is next, so cotto is vacating the WBC 160. there will be no catchweights or A-sides.
get real, though. cotto will vacate within a month. there will be no cotto-GGG fight.
