I have always been a Hopkins fan.But his desire to push his race card is enough to make me sick.
I hope he loses his last fight.

I hope he wins and retires after that. DeGale is not good enough to have a win over Bernard on his resume.

Yeah kovalev didnt do him any good at all. Still it was a tribute to hops that he survived the 12. He should take a soft touch and retire gracefully.

What are the odds we get Hopkins vs. JCC Jr? Could do big business and both guys would probably see it as winnable.

No, Junior will now only fight B level or shot middleweights at 168. He already tried to get Macklin. Now he is scheduled Marcos Reyes who is #33 at MW according to boxrec.

Hopkins would make Chavez to look even more foolish than Fonfara did.

DeGale will fight Fielding or Murray unless Froch is tempted into fighting him.

Didn't Hopkins announce he was retired after beating Tarver for the light heavyweight title in 2003?

Didn't he also make a big deal about promising his late mother that he would quit boxing when he turned 41?

Hopkins is now 50.

I don't put much stock in this supposed farewell fight in October.

B-Hop ain't going nowhere. He's one of these guys that they'll have to carry out of the ring before his boxing career comes to an end.

See you in 2016 (and beyond) Bernard.

Wait, Hopkins is playing the race card to draw attention to himself and his next fight?

That's never happened before

Oh this is classic BHOP, world class to Bernard.
Race Religion or Politics always sells.
The Rocky Balboa part is black and white evidence of bullshit, I bet even Bernard is sitting somewhere laughing at that line. :TU:

I don't care about the racial stuff. I don't look to Bernard Hopkins for his views on race in society anymore than I look to Ray Rice for his views on feminism or Adrian Peterson for his views on child protection. He could fight a standee of Rocky Balboa in October and I'd still respect him as a legend.

The guy is half a goddamn century old and we are realistically talking about him possibly fighting DeGale or Chavez jr. He's had an astounding career by any measure.

Chavez would be a good opponent if he's not after a world title.

Degale beats him in my opinion.

BHop should take a soft touch and retire, he doesn't need the stupid racial antics to get attention and IMHO it would be fitting for him to have his final fight in Philadelphia.

Would love to see the great man go out against DeGale, claiming a victory and a world title in his final bout. Good luck to BHOP who ever he decides to fight.

GGG and Hopkins for DeGale.

Sounds like the feelers are out there baiting a DeGale fight because he might be one of the easier champions to beat.

Well Bernard maybe if you didn't run your mouth off saying BS like you would never lose to a white guy people would have more respect for your "clean living", you moron.

As far as the Rocky statue it was created as a MOVIE PROP 33 yrs ago for Christ sake. What does that have to do with anything? Rocky is also an international and recognized icon in film. An international symbol of courage. It's got nothing to do with the city of Philadelphia. Why is this guy such a moron?

I give Bhop all the credit in the world. He's a sure fire first ballot HOF'er who always took the fights against the most feared and most of the time pulled off the win. He stepped up and took the fight with Kovalev to keep his company out of court and took a hellacious beating for it. But I don't need to see this guy take another punch. There's nothing else for him to prove. It's time for him to get behind his company or the microphone to start his second career.

Why is DeGale even getting mentioned? Bernard isn't going to boil down for his last ever fight!

I couldn't care less what he said about whites or whatever else. Good luck to him, I hope he wins his last fight. He's done boxing proud for years. I remember he lost the first RJJ fight, when was that? AGES AGO... I thought he was coming to the end of his career when he fought Trinidad. How wrong can you get. The man's a star and a legend. We, as boxing fans, were lucky to have him.

I wish Hopkins would leave the racial crap out, but he can not. If Hopkins wants to go out with a bang, fight Beterbiev.

He says the ongoing disrespect, which he feels is racially motivated, has kept him away from fighting in his hometown.

Basically, it upsets him that a white fictional character like Rocky Balboa commands more respect than he does.

The thing is… does a moderately famous public figure like Bernard Hopkins have any right to be discussing issues of race when he famously shouted the following sentence at Joe Calzaghe?

“I would never let a white boy beat me. I would never lose to a white boy. I couldn’t go back to the projects if I let a white boy beat me?” :o

In my mind, it doesn’t matter if he was only trying to be controversial in order to sell the fight, because regardless of whether he meant those words or not, he expressed racist remarks… and he’s only made his own plight even worse by making such bizarre comments!
I don't know where you're from but ... in America, there's a real belief among the black population that the country abused/abuse them and got/gets away with it. The evidence kinda supports that view ...

So when Hopkins says that, he is responding to years of abuse and crime against blacks that is not normally discussed in America and probably doesn't get exported as an image of the USA.

When a white person in the USA says they'll never let a black person beat them, that's most likely coming from a position of superiority, historically and currently in the country.

The whole, "all racism is equal" movement is simply a way to ignore the anger felt by all groups that we all KNOW were abused and never compensated.

This situation is not limited to blacks in America.

Bad intentions I am Irish and American Indian.I know my ancestors were treat as bad if not worse than the
blacks.I do not harbor resentment for my peoples land being stolen or our women raped.
Why the hostility of other races?

How so? Because he said "I'll never let a white boy beat me"? Kovalev called a black man a Monkey, Freddie Roach said "N*ggers".

I love how people sum up a person's entire life off of one thing.
