But now back to the real world, in which it is nice to see Joshua continuing with a very good standard of matchmaking against the promising Whyte, who beat him in the amateurs and has shown some solid skills thus far as a pro.

Eddie Hearn has repeatedly told the media that he plans to arrange a world title shot for Anthony Joshua before the end of 2016. I really don’t know if he has subsequently changed his mind and currently has a different plan for AJ, but there are literally dozens of interviews where he previously made that claim.

WBC have Joshua at #2 in the world after only a dozen fights???

Man, the division needs to bolster some talent, that would have been unheard of a few years back. Admittedly, I think he's got a damn good future, just needs more top opposition.

Any thoughts on who the stop-gap fighter should be?

I would recommend the lad that Browne and Hughie Fury fought recently, Andriy Rudenko (24-2) or Matteo Modugno.

I've generally been quite impressed with the choice of Joshua's opponents to date, but I think Dillian Whyte is a step backwards, though I can see the appeal of the matchup being between two local, unbeated fighters. He definitely needs to step it up after this, ideally taking on a top 20 opponent before the end of the year.

I am okay with Whyte, given his age, his record and their rivalry.

Joshua and Chambers might be a decent bout in the near future.

Kali Meehan - For the vacant Commonwealth title (if Browne is stripped at the end of the month).

Odlanier Solis - Both Olympic gold medalists.

Derric Rossy - Recently lost a controversial majority decision to top 10 rated Vyacheslav Glazkov.

Is that the Aussie Lucas Browne? He looks like he'd be a good match at this stage for Joshua.

Will be interesting to see of AJ shows whyte more respect than he did Johnson. Whyte put him on his butt so will be a good psychological test for AJ.

Really would've liked to see Whyte take on an in-between type of opponent... He's been inactive for a while due to his suspension and hasn't really been tested

Dillian Whyte is a good enough opponent, considering that several people on this forum said they wanted Whyte specifically as an opponent for Joshua. Also, this would be Joshua's fourth opponent in a 3.5 month span. How is it possible that someone is crying about Joshua fighting a top 100 fighter as 1 of his 4 opponents in just 3.5 months? What's even worse is that this is at least the second thread fergusg has created to complain about this match-up.

I agree.

This is an okay opponent for Joshua at this stage in my opinion given how active he is and his amateur history with Whyte. If he fights him in September he's not exactly sitting around for a particularly long period just for this bout, and he'll have plenty of time after that for another step-up in competition, which going by his schedule may even be fit in near the end of 2015.

Is Dillian Whyte as inexperienced, as people think he is? If you'll just look at his record in BoxRec, then yes. But he went through training camps of top fighters in the HW division - he was in 3 camps with Wlad, he was in Vitali's camp before his last fight with Charr, he was in Haye's, Fury's, Chisora's camps. I think it's a better experience, than tens of fights against bums and journeymen.

It's a good fight. Johnson then whyte in his 13th then 15th fight is really not bad. Compare it to Loma and yes its poor but hes exceptional. Compare it to Wilder and it's a lot more competitive early on. Matchroom and Joshua seem to have the balance right at the moment.

Whyte is not ready for Joshua he will be a successful boxer in his own right but needs more fights AJ will walk through him in three or four rounds but at least Dillian will get a much deserved pay day. Aj needs to fight a top twenty heavy soon

You could be right, but where did you hear about this?

Dillian Whyte is on the SKY Sports Ringside program tonight promoting his bout with Joshua and his Twitter feed does not report any injuries.
