I'm not saying he will win but in the unlikely event that he did beat Ward where would it rank in upsets involving British fighters and where would it rank on the all time list?

Again, this isn't about whether he can win or not, just where would it rank if he did.

It would be right up there with the biggest shocks that boxing has ever seen around these parts... But it aint gonna happen, if we're being honest.
As a matter of fact, I think Paul would be doing well to go the distance.

If Ward wasn't so inactive, it could have potentially been the biggest upset involving a British fighter. Even taking that into account, it'd certainly be in the top 5.

If Smith wins it is easily the biggest upset involving a British fighter of all time. That's how we all know he isn't. Lockett and Jennings were less of an underdog in their challenges

You could argue all of those fighters had achieved a hell of a lot more than smith by the time their night of glory came. He hasn't even cleaned up domestically.

Benn was a two weight world champ with serious firepower so whilst he defied the odds, it wasn't unthinkable he'd win vs a fighter stepping up in weight. Plus it was over here.

Hatton was red hot going into the KT fight, and it was in his back garden vs an ageing (albeit in form) champ. We just couldn't be sure how good Ricky actually was at that stage, but I remember a fair few people picking him to do it.

Honeyghan was undefeated going into the curry fight and had won everything except a world strap. Smith has lost to three domestics that aren't even the best in the UK, certainly not when he fought them.

Laing had shown glimpses of genius that smith could never replicate on his best night by the time he fought Duran.

The GREATEST! upset in the world ever, bar non!

It would be up there with me banging out wladimir on the cobbles a la rocky 5

Ward is far more accomplished as a pro than Tszyu was and Smith is far far below Hatton, Turpin, Honeyghan and Benn.

I actually quite like Paul,but Ward would have fought better opponents that Smith in his first 5 pro fights.
It`s a match of such extremes isn`t it,undisputed best in the world at his weight versus a guy that possibly isn`t even the best SM in his own City (or family).
It reminds me of some of the worst mis-matches of Calzaghe`s reign,Will Macintyre ,Branko Sobot etc.
At least he`ll get paid well,shouldnt get hurt either and can say that he fought the best at his weight in the world.

Think of the PPV's we could look forward to ............

Haha when you put it like that, it's a crazy fight!

Smith was outclassed and lost every second of the fight against an 8-0 James Degale 4 and a years ago and his only win of any note since then was against Dodson , if he was to beat Andre Ward it would be the biggest upset ever involving a British fighter bar none!

I'd be surprised if Smith even won a round to be honest and we all know what's going to happen but if he did somehow manage the unthinkable then it would probably be the biggest upset I can remember in my lifetime.

Smith's skillset simply can't compete with Ward's. Just have to hope that Andre is suffering from really bad ring-rust and takes Smith very lightly.

to be honest it would be the biggest upset ever since Buster Douglas beat Tyson

its just a warm up fight for ward. . . its the equal of Brook v Gavin

It would be a huge upset in the worldwide sense, not simply in British boxing.

If Smith wins it'll be one of the greatest upsets a British fighter has ever recorded. Possibly only Turpin-Robinson would eclipse it, I don't think the others Littlepug mentions were as impossible as this one seems. Good luck to him though, I hope he wins.

I'd put laing vs Duran , turpin vs SRR ,and honeyghan over smith doing ward ,
don't think Hatton was that big of an upset mate
