Just watched the Danny Williams interview on ringside. He seemed full of confidence about the possible Tyson fight (it's still one of those things that i'll only believe when they're both in the ring). He was basically saying exactly what we all know, Tyson's shot and if he (Danny) can stay out of trouble early on he could cause Tyson all sorts of problems.

Also interesting to hear him blame the pressure of being favourite for the Sprott defeat. It seems to me to be the last thing a fighter would want to do would be to give future opponents a mental edge. It's one thing for the opponent to know that a weakness is there, but to talk about that weakness yourself sends all the wrong signals.

I guess the question is, how much does he actually believe he can beat Tyson, and how much of this confidence just bravado?

im afraid we wont know to til the night of the fight BUT Ive got a funny feeling bout this one.
One thing I like about Danny is he is sometimes too honest for his own good, calls it as he sees it at the time.
Ill be shouting for him and if he coudl beat Tyosn who knows maybe that would be the boost for his career he would need to settle the mental demons. Big ifs and buts and maybes mind!

They're all confident untill they actualy get in the ring with Tyson. With the fight weeks away, Danny will be pretty pleased about the whole affair.

But CRUNCH time is when he's walking to the ring, looking up and seeing Iron Mike pacing around the ring like a caged tiger - THAT'S when we'll see how confident he really is.
I'm hoping he holds it together - if he gets it right mentaly ( and yes, that's a big IF ) and survives the first two rounds, he's got the skills to beat a faded Tyson.

Interesting quotes from Mike Katz: One fight manager said "if Danny Williams had one testicle, he'd give Tyson a fight. He's got talent, a good jab, but he has no confidence. He reminds me a lot of Buster Douglas. He's got the ability."

Douglas?! That's a good thing.....isn't it?!!

Danny Williams has always suffered from a lack of confidence in the big fights.

it is a shame as he has the tools to be a top 10 fighter; size, quick hands, decent jab and a great heart ( anyone who can come back from four dislocations to knock out an opponent is worthy of respect ) but he can't seem to put the lot together

His endurance is suspect too and he has been coming in at increasingly heavy weights in recent fights.

He can hurt Tyson if he puts his mind to it and he can keep Tyson on the end of a jab for a while. But, in the end, even a washed up version of Tyson is going to get to him in the end.

Tyson, even now, is likely to:

1) Punch harder than Williams

2) Throw More Punches Than Williams

3) Have a better chin than Williams

4) Have a better defence than Williams

5) Be faster than Williams.

6) Even possibly be stronger than Williams.

7) Have more big fight experience than Williams

8) Have better ring generalship than Williams

The only questionable area is stamina, but lets not forget, Tyson took loads of hard punches from Lewis and still went 8 rounds.

Williams has got no chance at all, which is a shame because he's a nice guy and a good ambassador for the sport.

To be fair Knockout, it was a manager who said that, not Katz.
The two Mikes seems to be on good terms these days. He says Tyson even rang him at home to talk about the recent ODH fight. There's a video on maxboxing of them having a chat too. Here's what else Katz had to say:

What a load of BOLLEX.

To be honest, I can't see LL coming back at all now. The only fight that may interest him is Vitali because it was a below par performance ( although reading a lot of the boards you would think he lost rather than made chopped liver of Vitali's face )

I can't see him rushing back to beat the man who beat the man who beat Julius Francis, who he has already beat

Ring Generalship! When has Tyson ever had any ring generalship? He has never, ever had a plan b, he has always been one dimensional, it's just that the one dimension was good enough to beat the (mostly) sub-world class opposition and old men that he faced, even in his prime. He was being outboxed by Nielsen and Botha before finding a big shot.

Tyson went 8 rounds, but he wasn't expending any energy against Lewis because all he did was walk forward and get hit constantly.

Throw more punches! I very much doubt it, how many punches did he throw against Lewis? He hasn't shown a high workrate since oooo the Ruddock fight. 12 and a half years ago that is now.....

He will always have a better chin that Williams, but his defence is more or less non-existent these days, as evidenced by the fact that fat slob nielsen was able to pick him off at will.

I'm not even sure he's faster than Williams any more, Danny has fast hands for such a big lump, and Tyson has thrown about 10 punches in the last two years. He didn't look fast against Lewis....

Big fight experience, chin and punching power, all advantages, but if Williams can last 3 rounds and frustrate him, the world is his winkle.

Tyson needed ring generalship to outbox guys like Tony Tucker and James Smith.

I think you are being very harsh on Tyson James and it appears that you might actually dislike him. Is this clouding your judgement?

Granted, Tyson is nowhere near the fighter he was and when he fought Louis and Neilsen he was way out of shape.

The signs are that he is as in shape as you can be at 38, with not much activity in recent years. Also, he seems well mentally and seems happy. IF Tyson is enjoying his Boxing (it is a big if) I see no reason why he cant compete for honours with the current guys.

If Tyson is enjoying his Boxing, Danny Williams is fucked, bottle or no bottle.

Once again, I harbour no animosity towards Williams, Id like to see him win, Ive met Danny a few times and he's a great guy, my favourite domestic heavyweight.

But against even a washed up Tyson, he has no chance.

If the fight happens, we will know for sure.

Tyson spent the entire bout being grappled by Smith, with virtually no idea of how to fight on the inside, something which has ALWAYS something of a weakness.

Christ almighty, do you know how long ago those bouts were mate? We're talking ancient history here, almost 20 years ago now! Tyson has been outboxed by Nielsen and Botha, as I said before, are you telling me that these two are masterful stick and move artists?

I really have NOTHING against Tyson, except I get sick of people talking about him as if he is still a real force in the division, he has virtually nothing left in the tank, and lacks the desire to be a force, he's made it clear all he wants is money.

I'm not saying Williams will win, he's so flaky he may expire before they touch gloves, but he certainly has a shot at an upset. At the end of the day, Danny is only 30, is still healthy, and hasn't abused himself, he also isn't on medication to stabilise his moods, and isn't old and jaded like Tyson.

Tyson was one of the men responsible for getting me really interested in boxing at a young age, and I think Mike is a much maligned human being, but he ain't a real fighter any more, just a name and a paycheck waiting to happen.

And yes this fight would absolutely be on PPV on Sky. I'd buy it too, only because it's Danny Williams getting the "shot".

I know exactly when the Smith and Tucket fights were. I brought them up in answer to your question "When has Tyson ever used ring generalship"
