Intentionally I'm sure. Worried about Marriaga's power and wants to come in heavier to be more durable.

doubt he is worried about Marriaga. Walters will take him out of his confort zone which he hasn't been in the pros... Marriaga likes to apply pressure, close the distance, stalk and gain respect with pop. He needs to close the distance to work the body which he is effective at.

Walters will impose his straight punch arsenal and superior pop... Walters will reverse the roles by being the stalker aggressor...

You doubt he would intentionally come in heavier against a guy who beat him twice in AM's?

Really?

You seen how Walters fight??? Nothing like "amateur"... its a different sport

I've seen PLENTY of Marriaga at pro including low profile Mx cards he was on and imo he doesn;t stand much of a chance

Never said Walters would lose. Don't think he will. But there's a psychological angle to coming in heavier like Salido intentionally did vs Lomo.

Bettors have knocked this line way down. Walters opened -1400 and is now -550.

i just don't see it mainly because Marriaga will make a BIG step up vs Walters who'll now be heavier... and more importanyl Marriaga on top of the step up will have to fight entirely differently than he did so far at pro... Reinventing yourself in a ring vs the type of fighter Walters is will be extremely tough.

I really don't think he came in overweight on purpose. By doing so he is likely giving up the fight against lomachenko. I doubt he would do that just to get an advantage over this marriago dude.

So does Walters not making weight mean that Walters will be unable to make 126 in November in a potential fight with Lomachenko? Looks that way. If I was Lomachenko I wouldn't fight him unless he made 126 and if he came in overweight like Salido did fight would be off.

This is certainly not a lock fight for Walters by any stretch of the imagination.
Marriaga is a legitimately solid opponent who will not make things easy.

I expect Walters to ultimately win but I would not be shocked if an upset occurred.

Extremely disappointing. If he cant make weight he needs to move up. No doubt he destroys that little dude after coming massively overweight.

If he wanted to run from guys, he made a strange choice to become a professional boxer.

The guy is huge, he probably just can't make 126 anymore.

walters is very tall and has very long reach, he is a lightweight in a featherweight division. he should go were the money is, lightweight-super lightweight. gamboa, verdejo, matthysse, crawford on my mind for him. he sure as hell aint no featherweight anymore, dude gotte go up and there is no $$ to be made at super featherweight, so 2-3 division he has to go higher.

As opposed to a vulva's klitoris?

Walters power may not move up with him. If he can still make 126 he should stay there. He still has upside potential but he will most likely lose wide to Lomachenko if they fight and Walters is forced to make weight.

Walters might not have the same power, but with is build and size he will have plenty of power at 130-140, not a lot of those guys at the top of even 140 are 1 hitter quitters.

Walters is a freak when it come to his size as a 126 lb. fighter and he's the type of guy that might have to move up in order for him to fight at top form. If 126 isn't working for him, 130 isn't that big of a gap and I'm pretty sure he'll still be very strong in that division.

I agree he doesn't beat Lamachenko at 126, but he has the neutralizer and I don't think Lamachenko has been in with someone nearly as good as Waltes as a pro. I think Walters is a more winnable fight for Lamachenko at 126 more so than if they meet at a higher weight division in the future. I'd expect to see Walters at 130+ from now on and think he'll only get stronger as a he grows into the higher divisions. If anything him staying at 126 could do more harm than good if he's struggling to make the weight.

So I guess you think Walters is better than Gary Russell jr.
I have Lomachenko and Russell 1+2 at featherweight now. Especially after seeing Walters not make weight and how dependent on size he is for his wins.

I forgot about him fighting russell, I'd actually like to see a rematch between "amo and Russell.. that's a impressive win for sure.. Walters is still a bad due and with Walters struggling to make 126 Lamos chances are even better of beaing him clealry.. But tt at 130 I think }'d go with Walters.
