Can it get any worse for ex-heavyweight Paul Sykes? His 29-year-old son Paul Leighton Sykes is accused of killing 50-year-old Michael Gallagher in Wakefield on Tuesday night.
Mr Gallagher was found stabbed to death outside his flat in Gloucester Place.
Paul Leighton Sykes spoke only to confirm his name, age and the fact he was of no fixed address when he appeared before magistrates at Wakefield yesterday.
After a five-minute hearing, Sykes, was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court next Thursday.
He waved to family members gathered in the courtroom as he was taken down to the cells.
Mr Gallagher's relatives were understood to be too upset to speak about his death.
Police officers were called to the Wakefield Council owned block of flats shortly before midnight.
Mr Gallagher was found dead outside the flats and his body was removed from the scene on Wednesday morning.
A post-mortem examination showed he had been stabbed to death.
Police sealed the street off as forensic experts combed the area for evidence.
Shocked neighbours said Mr Gallagher lived alone but was thought to have a wife and two daughters living in the Wakefield area.
Residents spoke of a quiet man who was polite but kept himself to himself.
