You can look back over 80 years and identify the boxer or boxers that carried the sport in each era. In recent era's, Oscar grabbed the torch from Holyfield, Lewis and Tyson and then handed it to Floyd when he was done. Floyd single handedly carried the sport for the last 8 years but now that there's only 3 or so months left before Floyd hangs up the gloves, where does Boxing go from here? Who do you think has the skill and charisma to keep the flame burning? What division does Boxing invest most heavily in?

I honestly hope it isn't any one person. Boxing needs less Divas, not more.

Nobody really thought Floyd would become ppv after snoozing past DeLaHoya but Arum already gave him the business plan of getting on the hispanic gravy train and fighting Latinos, playing the heel to fighters with large fan bases rather than establishing his own. Floyd and HBO did the rest though in building a brand and fan base of his own by selling the black/hiphop/insane-wealth brand with Mayweather who's previous brand of 'pretty' was just another Ali rehash.

Enter 1 Manny Pacquaio. Nobody predicted his neotoric rise through the weights to become p4p 1. His 'brand' wrote itself, he became to represent a continent, a politician, a christian icon and 2nd coming of Bruce Lee wrapped up in 1, probably the biggest global sporting icon since Ali.

Floyd & Pac created the perfect storm & is unlikely to be repeated in our lifetimes. It's like if Ali was champ when Tyson broke through then hyped it for 5 years.

Superstars need both the skills and the branding. May/Pac had both in abundance. More so then even Oscar. Goldenboy had the branding down no doubt, but he wasn't at their level.

Right now i'm not sure whose up next. Golovkin and Roman have the ability but maybe not the personality and marketing muscle. In Romans case it's hard to establish mainstream exposure in such low weight classes. As for Golovkin, he has Cotto, Canelo and Froch as potential big fights to get to the next level but he doesn't really have a brand, comes across like a smaller Klitchko, well mannered, smiley Soviet.

As was mentioned, hopefully there isn't only 1 or 2 fighters carrying the torch when they retire.

A lot of great talent out there right now and unfortunately boxing as a whole doesn't get the exposure it should for the casuals to really realize that boxing has a lot of to offer outside of Floyd and Manny whether they're active or not.

Unless some of the Canelo, Thurman, Crawford, Garcia come out big , I think the next era is the russian one. Spectacular KO artist in the group. Golovkin, Kovalev, Beterbiev and all the others. This is where it ll go I think. Future is for Haymon to take though

Crawford, he's got all the talent and the start of a fan base.

Verdejo looks like a future star and will certainly carry the puerto rican torch from cotto.

Canelo is already a star. As long as he keeps winning, people will attribute the loss to floyd as being due to the fact that he was only 22.

GGG is becoming a star. Fans love him. Only question is if he is just too late. If he was in the position he is in now but was only 28 there would be no doubt that he would be a mega star. Problem is he is 33.

Someone like chocolito will never be a star. Just too small.

He's Mexican and his only loss is to ATG. People take to Canelo right now even with the loss people calling the future of the next generation.

I get that he's mexican so of course he's gonna have that fanbase. But I mean if he would have at least gave floyd somewhat of a decent fight I feel I could take him more seriously.

Looking around, Kovalev and Golovkin are both the wrong side of 30. So if you are thinking long term five years plus I doubt it will be them. Kell Brook is starting to make a.name for himself at Welterweight and has a stacked division to do it in if Eddie Hearn can land the big fights. Canelo Alvarez is almost there with the ability and matinee idol looks like his promoter Oscar De La Hoya but Canelo Alvarez needs to become bilingual to really break out.

Yea he has made a good comeback and I like canelo but like I said just knowing the top guy from the previous era was far better with obvious proof just irritates me lol
