Just now watched Mitchell against Linares ( I refuse ever again to pay extra for a boxing bill) and while I agree with all the reports about how well Mitchell performed, I thought Linares was superb - fast, strong ,accurate and fearless. He's one of the best champions to come across here.

Mitchell was at his absolute best, and he couldn't do it, I fear a similar result, in shorter time, if there is a rematch. Sorry.

Give the lad the benefit of the doubt - it was a 50/50 fight up until that round and it was injuries persuaded the ref to stop it.

Linares is a class act for sure, but Mitchell was edging it in those early rounds 1-8.

The rematch will be another close, competitive fight.

Does anyone know if they've shown a repeat of the bill on Sky Sports yet? Or was that what dalculmly was referring to? I hadn't seen it on the Sky Sports schedule.

Dunno if they actually broadcast the full repeat, but it was available to watch for free On Demand a week after the fight.

I don't think they ever repeat the whole bill but I meant the 2 hour repeat that they normally do. They never seem to advertise it on Ringside. Seems a long time coming unless I missed it.

Professional boxing would cease to exist if nobody was prepared to pay for it. A statement of the obvious,I know,but some people don't seem to grasp the economic law of supply and demand.

I'm not really sure of your point. People pay for tickets to watch live boxing- and that's great. People also pay extra for Sky Sports to watch live boxing - and that's fine- because people also pay to watch live football and golf etc. But why is it that big boxing bills are now virtually routine on PPV. Now more people will watch Liverpool v Man U than Brook v Gavin and others, but they will not be required to pay extra. Where is your supply and demand economic theory now ? Why are the crucial football matches not PPV?
The answer is simple - the fans wouldn't accept it and there would be outrage to the extent that a likely boycott would result. But , Sky realise that some short sighted folk will buy a big boxing bill occasionally . Well good luck to them all I can do is save my money and watch it a couple of weeks later. I simply will not do it.

Making fans pay PPV to watch boxing is like nailing Jesus to the cross; just because you can do it doesn't make it right.

A lil off topic but some shows in Thailand are entirely paid for by advertisers and sponsors with the fights shown on free TV and with free admittance for fans wanting to watch.

The economic theory for boxing is the old price elasticity of demand. We've proved the the theory on here with the polls and how people are still prepared to pay despite a lower quality threshold.
