Enjoyed the later part of his career, the two fights with Williams especially, the first was a war and the second was a fantastic knockout. Shame about the knee.

Damn good fighter. I hope he enjoys his retirement, & as SNG said the latter half of his career was nothing short of miraculous (when you think about him plying his trade in leisure centres in Bristol & Andalucia a decade before).

One of my sentimental favourites.

He had a very solid career, I hope he has managed his money in a manner that allows him to live comfortable.
Sergio gave us a lot of good fights which took a toll on his body, glad to see he is able to choose this path vs hanging around to be a name opponent for younger fighters. He was an avoided fighter for quite a while but was yet another fighter that proved the old boxing logic that says "if you keep winning, "they" can't stop you" has some truth to it.

An excellent record of 51-3-2 with a solid run as the linear middleweight champion.
His best work imo:
Kelly Pavlik UD 12- gets off the canvas to win a great fight that made him THE middleweight champion

Paul Williams KO 2- avenged a previous loss with a sudden, devastating KO of true world class opponent

Julio Cesar Chavez jr UD 12- a fight with the previously undefeated and significantly younger Chavez had been building for some time. Sergio finally got to headline a successful pay-per-view event. This fight took a lot out of Martinez but he posted wide decision win over his rival and regained one of his alphabet belts in the process.

Serhiy Dzinzurik TKO8- imo Sergio ruined his previously unbeaten, reigning junior middleweight title holder opponent

Darren Barker KO11- solid win over an eventual world title holder who was unbeaten coming into the fight

Very solid, respectable career that makes him a possible future hall of fame inductee

He should have retired after the Chavez win. It was painful to look at him fighting while crippled against Cotto.
