Coming off three non-consecutive LKO1s, Michael Sprott returned to the ring in France the other night and was KOd in 5 by Carlos Takam.

Is Sprott going to take the Danny Williams path? Is the money from a Joshua or Takam beating really worth the scrambled brains? I've always liked Sprott, going back to his Harry Senior, Timo Hoffman days. His fight with Pele Reid was a tasty donnybrook.

I hope he sees sense and retires now, a very good career.

Did he get properly banged out or just lie down?

He's been a great pro over the years Michael (hell of a nice bloke as well) but he needs to retire. As the OP states he's been done in the first three times recently, his only wins have come in three rounders. Even in those he looked shaky, if you watch his three wins in the last Prizefighter he won, he was stunned or hurt in each one. His punch resistance has totally gone, he risks getting badly hurt if he carries on.

Has to be said as well it's a bit of a disgrace the Board allowing him to take the Takam fight, it was only going to end one way.

Been pretty much an international Brit for hire for ages now, hasn't he?

Sounds like it's reached a point of not even being competitive in his losses any more. So, yes. Time to retire.

Had a look at his record W42 - L24 but I didn't realise he's been stopped FOURTEEN times!! His record is remarkably similar to his old adversary Danny Williams who now stands at an equally bleak W47 - L25 stopped twelve times. One noticeable is Danny has thirty six stoppage wins, Michael only has seventeen, so even in winning fights Michael is 'putting miles on the clock' so to speak.

At least Audley Harrison, knew when to quit.

Even if it did take him a year or so to properly decide.

im not sure audley has retired completely... yes he can!! is what I say.

I think Sprott's record is a bit misleading. 10 years ago he had a spell of fighting in Europe where he suffered several dodgy German decisions, including one for the European heavyweight title proper. I also thought he beat Hoffman both times in those two fights they had a million years ago.

Basically up until Helenius a couple of years ago he was a man who could usually last the distance, and sometimes fling out a big shot or hustle a decision.

Now he seems to have been reduced to a shaky punchbag. As Bosh says, even in the fights he's scraped he's been shaken up. Julius Francis boxed so long his losses finally outnumbered his wins. Hate to see accomplished pros like Francis, Williams and Sprott sully their fine records.

The thread was started nearly a week after the fight....don't be such a baby.

I'd like to see Sprott hang them up but it's his decision and we all need a way to bring in the money.

Sprott has never been the most fluent speaker and these KO defeats aren't going to be helping him.
