Anyone know exactly what happened to that film? Judging by the pics of it, the quality looked way above others of the time and it's a tragedy that it's not around for us to view. Any idea when was the last time it was shown in public?

I think the only surviving film of Jeffries vrs Sharkey is a secretly filmed bootleg filmed version of it(film from inside a cigar box).
It was a major motion picture originally filmed in Mutoscope I believe,
and there are no surviving prints.
check out the book FIGHT PICTURES by Dan Streible,
there is an entire chapter on it.
There was also an earlier thread here regarding this,Ill try to find it and bump it up.

for the filming, It took 11 electricians to operate
" 400 specially built arc lights, reflectors and special feed wires from the Central Station to dynamos in the club house.

There is a 3 second clip in the movie the Night They Raided Minsk'ys that has unseen footage from the bootleg film.

It a three second clip shown toward the end of the movie in an arcade where the is a fight among the actors. One runs into a machine, and the clip is shown. Sharkey can be seen charging in and unleashes a hook the that ends up in the rafters! Jeffries ducks it! Best viewed in slow motion to freeze frame which works because the film has few pictures per frame.

I wonder if that is the only survivingi ng clip of that round now ?
there was a fire that destroyed a lot of fight film at at Bill Cayton's BIG FIGHTS archive at some point.
that movie came out in 1969.
