They're the guys that were never going to win anything, but for the odd round here and there, they looked very good.

I always liked Mark Wills and thought he could have been a decent heavyweight. He looked great knocking out Greg Page, but felt the wrath off Tim Witherspoon after losing to Bonecrusher.

Slammin' Sammy Scaff.

Mike Jameson, who Frank Bruno demolished but gave Mike Tyson a few hard rounds.

Steve Zouski.

Dave Jaco.

David Bey, who lost to Larry Holmes in a world title fight and then went down the journeyman route.

I was also a big fan of Cecil Coffee, if only for the name. Poor old Cecil was slow roasted a few times.

I have affections for Michael Murray. Again Bert Cooper i thought for one moment he was going to do Holyfield.

I guess Cooper is a guy we all think of. I still remember after the Holyfield fight, him saying "No more ESPN Fights for me. No more ESPN fights for me". He thought he was now in the big time. Of course he later fought on ESPN again.
He almost had Moorer as well.

Jesse Ferguson is another one. Always wondered who would have won Cooper-Ferguson showdown. Their careers overlapped quite a bit, and they both fought (and usually lost) to the same type of guys.

Crabtree definitely. Everett bigfoot martin, jaco always looked spectacular being knocked out.

There was alot of them I liked... McNeeley, Bigfoot, Wimpy, Wofford, Hines, Strickland, Buckley... I even liked ocassional television fighters like Rob Calloway and Don Steele... I think Steele was my first lesson in boxing, the vast difference between a quality fighter and a padded record... I think I was 13 or so at the time, and saw him fight Ray Mercer. I figured with 40 some odd wins, Steele must of been legit. For the first three rounds he held his own, but in the fourth he was tiring out and in the fifth he was knocked clean through the ropes. I believe it was Mercer's second knockout through the ropes in a row.

Ken Lakusta. Tyson's former sparring partner managed to win the Canadian title twice between losses to Bruno, Berbick, Wills, Dokes, Tommy Morrison, Ruddock, Foreman, Holmes, Tua and Botha -- among others. Big George told me that the wild overhand right Lakusta landed on his jaw just before Kenny was KO'd in the third round of their 1990 fight in Edmonton was the hardest punch he'd been hit with since launching his comeback in 1987.

Aussie guys Colin Wilson and Bob Mirovic were guys that could spring the odd upset, and gave it a go when outgunned. Had some entertaining fights between themselves as well for the Aussie title

Some good calls in there....especially Lakusta who seemed to fight the cream-of-the-crop year in and year out. His CV kind of makes you wince a bit because he went in with the best and was not ducking and weaving...he had at come-at-you style.

I think the Bruno camp were fairly respectful of him when Frank was coming off the Bonecrusher defeat....definitely beatable but also definitely someone who they felt they needed to be sharp for as well. Frank finished it very early but it was treated as a decent test against a tough guy.

More recently, I''ve appreciated guys like Mike Sprott who has kind of been on a one man mission to take the battle to any fancied, well-backed heavyweight in Germany. Mike was championship class for a few years and ruined a few protected records along the way; but his willingness to take fight top men in their backyards and at short notice means he has a semi-journeyman's record. German fight fans must know Mike extremely well indeed.

He weren't an heavyweight though.

I saw Dave Diamond Jules this morning, he's in decent shape, looking smart and working. He boxed some good men and freely admits he let himself down by not training/running but doesn't bleat about it.
