Steve Smoger - Boxing Monthly Interview

Interesting interview with Steve Smoger in the current issue of BM, particularly the parts about how he judges a stoppage. Smoger isn't perfect by any means, but there's certainly a few British refs who could learn a lot from his techniques (no prizes for guessing who could benefit the most...).

Great interview, he's my favourite referee. Always lets the action go on....proper boxing ref, not like some of the other chancers. Good all round issue of BM again.

Best Ref in the business. British refs should be sent on work experience with this guy. I remember saying he should have been given the Froch vs Groves rematch. If I am an American fighter coming over to the uk I would make sure I have it the contract that this guy refs or you will end up with a howard foster. Love Paulie M commentary calling BS on the ryder stoppage saying this would never happen in US.

If smoger saw a kid hit by a car he would count to 20 and ask nine times if the kid was alright before he called for an ambulance.

In before someone says 'But, better an early stoppage than a late one!'

Implying what? He doesn't stop fights soon enough?
