I would have driven a long way to see a prime Roy, but wouldnt go across the road to see the current version

He obviously isn't even a shadow of what he was anymore but I might look into going just so I can say I've seen him in the flesh! Genuine legend.

Dodson is listed on the card but is fighting for the WBF Intercontinental LHW title against TBA and obviously Jones is up at Cruiser now so possibly it won't be him...

Circus. Roy was done many years ago. To an extent I can see the appeal of going just to say you saw him fight but it all has the air of a 'legends' football match. Old and or fat hasbeens.

Apparantly its part of a two fight deal to return to uk for another bout after christmas.

The whole card looks relatively strong.

While RJJ is a legend I would not rush to see the fight as he hasnt the skill as he once had so you are really not seeing Roy for his skil just his person. I went to the Paul Ingle v Hamed fight to see that fight but was drawn in by Tommy Hearns on the card. I went so I could say 'I saw tommy Hearns' I wasnt expecting the Hearns of Hagler.

RJJ seems to have found some kind of 'niche' which enables him to carry on boxing. Since winning the WBU trinket he has dropped down to the 'B' circuit and is defending it against has-been's and never-will-be's which to me, if he insists on continuing fighting, is preferable to him getting repeatedly starched as he was a few years back.

If there is a second fight and it's in London I may well go along, just to say that I have seen the great Roy Jones fight, however under no illusion that I'm watching anything other than a shadow...

I've no probs with old legends having a verterans circuit. Providing they see it for what it is, basically a paid exhibition, and doesn't give them the ambition to be competitive with young guns.

Can't believe he's still fighting. Probably the most talented fighter of the last 25 years but should have retired about 10 years ago. Is going to end up getting hurt.

I agree. Better this than the likes of Lebedev again.

Like football, boxing should create a masters tournament each year, then old legends can still have a bash if they so wish. It would get a lot more respect of acknowledged as a masters tournament. Nigel benn vs Roy jones masters final... Now more people would travel for that.

He may be nowhere near his best, but he's certainly a lot better than say 90% of licence-holders in the UK. Give the man a chance to keep earning and doing his job.

Problem is, that as fighters age, the blood vessels also age with them, leading to an increased risk of brain injuries. Taking blows to the head is never a good thing, and certainly not something you want to be doing into middle and old age. Roy's reflexes aren't what they were and he does get hit a lot more often than he used to.

I've always thought this. Although he it's about 20% of what's he used to be, he's still better than majority of domestic boxers outside their weight classes top 10. Hard to tell some one like that to pack it in due to them not having it anymore when most boxers fantasise over having his current capabilities.

Mad to think he was considered past it 11 years ago and here he is still going. If only he had the same enthusiasm for it back in the day. Question is - would he have retired had he best Johnson and tarver or the fact that he loves it we would still see him as he is now

Good point i dont think he wouldve retired if he beat them 2. Also i agree about that RJJ even now would beat most of the uk cruiserweighrs because he beat that courtney fry. I wish he hangs up the gloves soon at 46 he is finished but i guess when you used to be that good its hard to give it up.
