And give it the big one on forums..i wont name certain people but most wil know who i am on about....personally i find it so funny,as a boxer my self as u can imagine it is by far the HARDEST sport in the world...dieting,training,dicipline,heart,mental attitude...they r just some of whats needed as most of you know,what i found was worst was losing to guys who are journey man(mike duffield and Simeon Cover) in front of 100 of your mates and family,i think it's then you find out if u have what it takes to come back...(no disrespect to either boxer named they are nice proffesional guys)
what annoys me is guys on forums saying the sort of stuff they say about us boxers..ie the Tony Dodson thing on east side.....whats your thoughts on talking to a boxer,would u tell them what u thought or have to much respect

Jacko, personally I think you are the one of the most honest out there, you always call it as it is..

what kind of 'stuff?'. I'd never disrespect a boxer, and haven't done so on the forums i post on. If i think they will lose a fight, should of lost a fight, have a weakness etc.... i'll tell them. But they would have to be WELL out or order for me to disprespect them personally.

I think Jacko's referring to a couple of sad wannabes who've never boxed in their lives. In the end, even Eastside got fed up with their anti-boxing behaviour and that's saying something.

u gotta respect any1 who goes into that ring however as fans we have the right to criticise performances and thats what we do.

some fighters need taking down a peg or two and were at your service.

boxed amatuer but in being honest when i got to 16/17 the beer/nighclubing and women got the better of me could still make a comeback though im only 21.

Personally, i think that you have to tell it like it is. All boxers regardless of standard are deserving of respect, but i don't think that you should suck up to people just because of their profession. I'd like to believe that most reasonable blokes will respect you more if you are honest and any critism (or praise) is fair and even-handed. I can honestly say that i'd never post anything on this forum that i'd be scared to say to someones face.

Never boxed myself which strangely enough is the main reason I like it. I admire the skill and mental attitude boxing requires - although I obviously don't appreciate how much this is without being one.

I guess I should be less critical and concentrate on the positives as I wouldn't criticise any boxer to their face but I think a forum allows a certain amount of criticism.

I think everyone on here appreciates that all boxers are professional athletes and any criticism is only along the lines of boxer a is better than boxer b.

Every boxer deserves respect but you dont need to have boxed to have an opinion. We are the fans and that calls for us to praise and critisize equally

People may have respect for boxers for various reasons but just because you admire someone it doesnt mean they are above critisism.

Just because someone has chosen to be a fighter, it doesnt negate them fom being the subject of peoples opinions.

As regards people who have never boxed voicing their thoughts, then so what. I boxed for a fair few years at amateur level ( i wasnt too bad, but then i wasnt too good!) this doesnt mean my opinions mean more or less, or are more important than anyone elses. It may offer me a different angle to look at things than someone who has never boxed would, but that really doesnt mean anything.

As a man somewhere once said.... you dont have to be a chicken farmer to know an eggs rotten.

I respect people who deserve it and for their dedication and bravery, boxers deserve it as a rule.

But if they negate that by being an arsehole, then they don't deserve it - same as anyone else. It's a very hard game they are in.

I think you have to call it as you see it. I've actually had boxer mates who I've had to tell a couple of home truths too. When you are the only one doing it out of 100 people it can make you seem a sod, but if you haven't got honesty, what else is there?

Criticise a boxer, but don't call them bum's. I detest that word, and to call anyone who get's in the ring a bum is so dis-respectful.

u have to say though u appreciate pro 's more if u have boxed yourself amateur or pro - im sure theres tons of wannabees or watch boxing and are saying " i could better than that" whilst resting their beers on their bellies......

All boxers deserve respect, for having the balls to get in there, and the dedication to get themselves there, nuff said.

As a non boxer I think I'd find it pretty difficult to go up to Audley Harrison and tell him I don't think he's as good as he says he is.

I have a good level of fitness though and believe despite never having done more than padwork and light sparring that I do have some kind of understanding of how tough the sport of boxing is after following it all these years. IMO most casual observers do not have a clue.

What about those of us who used to box and now rest beers on their bellies saying "I could do better than that"...?

Actually, in all seriousness, one of the great things about boxing is that many people on the outside expect even amateur gyms to be all aggro, but they're amongst the friendliest places around because of the respect everyone has for each other.

Its been said above really, but I too agree that all boxers deserve a degree of respect, though they must all equally expect to draw criticism from certain quarters if they under perform (e.g. Audley Harrison) or act like idiots (e.g. Herbie Hide).

The fight game is extremely tough (stating the obvious I know!), but equally the rewards are potentially great. Think of the money someone like Ricky Hatton must have made by now. Ricky gets criticised for the questionable talent of his opposition, yet many would leap to his defence saying he “deserves respect for getting in the ring, remember that”.

Well… excuse the pun, but boxers need to take it on the chin. If I under perform at work, my manager will have a go. If boxers under perform at work, the fans will have a go. It’s the way it is, and I don’t consider it “unfair” in any way. Boxers do need a lot of guts to get in the ring I’m sure, but it is a path they chose. Not many were coerced into it from birth I wouldn’t imagine.

Well, I went to one of my local gyms during my A-levels and through Uni. No foraml fights, but at least I've got in the ring and took punches (enough to convince that I might as well cross Boxer off my "Jobs I want to do when I grow up" list ).

I wouldn't offer my opinion to a boxer's face, basically because I was always taught that just going up to people and telling them exactly what you think isn't 'refreshingly honest', it's just plain rude. I would, however, give an honest opinion if directly asked, which is basically what forums like this are for: someone expresses their opinion, and everyone else discusses it. I'd probably couch it in diplomatic terms, depending on how pissed off/scarey looking the boxer was.

I definately stay away from giving completely negative or unconstructive critisism anyway. Acting like a wide c*nt, on the internet or in the real world, has never appealed to me.

I have never really boxed ( a bit of sparring made me realise that they I would make more money selling advertising space on the soles of my shoes than by fighting if I ever got into a pro ring ) but I have the highest respect for any and all boxers above any other sportsmen.

no one has to dedicate there lives to training like a boxer. One let up or poor build up and you can get fatally found out.

I love watching boxers train and workout as well as fight not least because it has helped motivate me to shed a load of weight and get to a decent level of fitness myself.

All that being said. if I have paid a good wedge for a ticket, I feel I have a right to comment on a boxer's performance in a constructive way. what I don't have a right to do is call ANY fighter a bum or a loser.

1) because even the most journey of journeymen could take me to the bloody cleaners without batting an eyelid
2) Because anyone who gets in the ring to fight deserves total respect
