For me personally it's Carl Froch. His dedication, desire and toughness has fascinated me and his fights got me hooked on boxing (was more of a casual pre Taylor fight). Also helps that he's a local lad done good.

In MMA, Conor McGregor is ridiculously inspiring but I guess that's for a different forum!

I spoke to Paul Ingle last week and I have to say his gutsy honesty was inspirational.

The first real boxer I came to notice was Bruce Woodcock lived in the same village as me as I was a nipper. Then the next real boxers I got to know was Mick Cawdon from doncaster, travelled with him to Newcastle for his fight but it was cancelled. I got to meet Steve Gee too. I have to say Paul Ingle was my first boxer I saw in life that was a honour to meet. Tommy Hearns was an idol of mine and got lucky to see him fight on the Naz v Ingle undercard. I met featherwieght Steve Williams at a wedding many years ago before he started boxing, he was a jockey at the time. Ive met some old retired boxers in my work that told great stories of the 1940's 50's etc. Couple of boxers who I would have loved to meet would be Herol Graham and Nigel Benn. Benn was awesome, if I met Benn im sure I would cum in my pants!

The dark destroyer for me too , watched the Mcllelan fight hundreds of times , legend of the sport for me

Michael Watson whenever I hear him talk usually picks me up if I'm a bit low. Never heard him moan or bitch about what happened to him he just gets on with his life with courage and dignity! I was also a massive admirer of Johnny Tapia. He never done himself any favours going off the rails at times but he was a hell of a fighter and an even bigger character.

When I fought and trained I tried to replicate Wlad, Lewis and Tommy Hearns........I didn't succeed too well

Benn is a top bloke. Very warm and friendly, you wouldn't think at all that he was once the dark destroyer.

I think Anthony Crolla is inspiring his comeback is remarkable and I hope he wins a title to put the cherry on it.

I just cringe now whenever I read about another Harrison comeback! He was a big hero of mine in his heyday and I rarely missed a fight but he just can't seem to accept that the games up and he's ruined it! Hopefully he gets his issues sorted and puts his career to bed and he can have success in the sport in another capacity. Perhaps helping his dad and eventually taking over from him?

I just can't see that happening, I think whatever happens with Scott it isn't going to be pretty

Yeah history would support that unfortunately! He just seems to have that self destruct mentality about him. Sadly it's a familiar story with fighters from this part of the world.

I've met a few, loads inspiring in different ways. I see amateurs not training or tossing it off, then speak to Henry who never took a night off, and he trained in a different city! Then I was with Tijuana1 when he'd do a 12 hour night shift before boxing a local hero, and he had a newborn at home! Then the likes of Darren Rhodes totally committed to giving back to his amateur club. Loads of good examples. It's a good sport.

Froch is the one for me out of contemporary fighters but historically I'd say McGuigan, Benn and the far too often overlooked Dennis Andries - talk about making the most of what you've got. Loved his attitude to losing to Hearns was to get on a plane to the States and go train at the Kronk. That tells you all you need to know

makes you wonder if they would have more under-achievers train at the Kronk ?

When I was starting off as a professional cris Laight for me inspired me. I watched the guy month after month get robbed a hell of a lot in the early days. He never moaned just shrugged his shoulders and told me on many of occasions that's whst happens on the road. Seasoned journeymen for me. Hopkins for his age and world titles. Good job B hop not in the Yorkshire region he would of been classed to old ha.

I like the little guys and Argentina's stocky Santos Laciar was a particular favourite in the 1980s. He came over here and lost a 10-round war to Charlie Magri but just a few months later went into the Lion's Den of South Africa and smashed Peter Mathebula for the WBA flyweight title. Those were the days when world titles changed lives. Laciar isn't quite sure if he has won as Mathebula bails in front of a huge hometown crowd so he walks up to the referee and the ref raises his hand. The reaction is joy. Laciar was then robbed of his title (a rare hometown robbery) in his first defence but won it back against rock-hard Mexican Juan Herrera in the champion's own hometown before rattling off nine defences against a list of formidable challengers. Shoulder problems forced him to relinquish but after a spell out he had enough left to win the WBC super-flyweight title against Gilberto Roman. Laciar was Galindez and Monzon rolled into one.
