Has any title had such a long run of poor titlist/challengers?

Abraham and Steiglitz are about to contest it for the 4th time and ever since Calzaghe and Kessler fought for it in 2007 it has simply passed between these 2 men and been defended against all manner of weak opposition.

How are they getting away with it and why are the WBO happy to have there title to be used in this way?

Degale needs to get in there and take it away from Germany.

The only British fighters ranked by the WBO are Fielding and Buglioni.

The only guy in the top 15 WBO who looks like a credible challenge is Gilberto Ramirez and something tells me he wont get a shot at it any time soon

Have to state the obvious and say that the Calzaghe run wasn't exactly a who's who of the SMW division for a large part. Basically, it's been weak for a good couple of decades

Indeed, but I suppose at least then it had a top quality champion, if not the highest quality challengers.

I just used the Calzaghe vs Kessler fight as an example of the last genuinely good fight for this title.
But you're right, it does have a pretty woeful past

True. Calzaghe gave it presitge rather than the belt bestowing prestige on Calzaghe.

I'd have thought Groves would have been going all out to win that, especially considering who he signed with. Maybe that's Sauerland's plan, milk those 2 one more time then aim for a unification with Groves and milk it some more

Wouldn't surprise me if Hearn targeted the winner for Callum Smith. Not sure where he's ranked but maybe a voluntary? They've obviously just recently done business with Paul Smith and Abraham so it should be easy enough to make and a very winnable fight for Callum IMO.

One of the guys Stieglitz defended against, Kiyota, was put on his arse by a complete nobody earlier today.
