Kal Yafai vs Paul Butler

It appears that Matchroom won the purse bids today for this fight for the British title for £54k.

I noticed Butler on Twitter saying that he didn't know about it and....

'Let's get this straight, I've said since I won the intercontinental title I won't defend me British, and I'm not boxing for 60% of 54k (1/2)

When I get more than that to box a 10 rounder for no title what so ever. Hearn knows fully well. Try making me look like a pudendum'

If that's the case then..

1. Why does he currently hold the British title if he has no intent to defend it? Surely it would be better for it to be active.

2. I'm not quite sure how Hearn is at fault by winning a purse bid that Butler's camp could have withdrawn from.

3. Butler's doing well to earn £32k for a 10 rounder!

Yeah agree. Can't see him going for this fight. Yafai would take it no problem but Butler has to rebuild and Yafai is far too dangerous at this stage.

Nothing in the fight really for Paul, the moneys terrible and he could have a world title eliminator, or possibly a world title fight instead, at home, on a allegedly show where he won't get messed about.

So how much has he got for his previous fights money wise?

I don't know but he's getting more for his fight on Saturday, a 10 round non title fight, against a shite opponent on an undercard, than he would for topping the bill fighting Yafai for the British title.

Well if there's nothing in the fight then why did his team let it go to purse bids and why does he still have the British title?!

Also if he's getting more than £32k on Saturday then I'd be amazed.

He never lost the title after he beat Hall for some reason, presumably they kept hold of it to give him the option of defending it.

Both Paul and Arnie have said that he's getting more than that, don't see why they would lie about it.

This fight will never happen, pointless discussing really.

Pity if it never happens as it has the makings of a good fight. Hopefully Butler can get his confidence back and kick on. Both guys are good prospects. I always thought BNation went a little OTT with Butler though.

After getting knacked by Tete, If he's getting more than 32K for a ten rounder on an undercard I'd be amazed too.

Typical Hearn propaganda trip, he knows full well Butler's not going back down to British title level (hence such a low big winning there was probably no other bids) but puts it out there to make Paul & Warren look bad. Paul's said on twitter he won't be taking the fight and hopes they can meet as world champions somewhere down the line.He thought the British title was already vacant.

I would like to see Kal win the British before moving on though, him v Anthony Nelson (commonwealth champion) for the vacant title would be decent. If he put that on in Brum (like was planned for Butler) and made a better job of the card than last time (although thats not hard) I'd go!

I'm sure if the winning bid was (financially) worth a lot more to him then he may well have been interested in defending it.

I'd wait to see what others might pay for the chance to take something off me before giving it up

At a rough estimate how much do people reckon Butler would of got for the Tete fight? 100k?
I've been very impressed with Yafai. Hearn seems to suggest he likes him at Fly. I personally think he looks big enough at Super fly.

I'm glad this fight hasn't been made for the British. It's bigger than that. Could be a good eliminator in 2016 for world honours.

I have a feeling Butler held on to the belt so long just to inconvenience Hearn, I'm sure if it was a young Queensbury fighter who was next in line that he would have vacated for him.

Butler v Conlan for some sort of International title would sell in Liverpool, Belfast or Dublin. Both guys would probably fancy the job. Would be a nice little technical battle.

Seems that's the way the are heading

I'd fancy Butler handily, think that was the plan but after last week surely someone in the Conlan camp has to be saying hang on we need to step back a bit here.

Nowhere near 100k!

Couldn't of been to far off 100k.
World title money, live on tv and headlining.

I remember Appleby got 100k for a British a few years ago.

Would be a horrible fight for Butler at this stage. Even though he is young himself and got time on his hands another defeat could spend the end of this career as a serious championship fighter - such was his disappointing performance vs Tete.

Yeah he was alarmingly easy to hit last week and lucky not to have been stopped! Just depends how Butler comes back. He was completely outclassed against Tete and obviously that KO was viscous as they come. Hopefully he's back to his best.
