If there's one version of it and its used as the original british masters was (i.e decent area title level scraps but where they don't happen to be from the same area) then I don't have a problem with it.

If it ends up like how the masters belts went (international, silver, bronze etc and people fighting for belts over 8 rounds against a journeyman) then it can fornicate off.

Good thing about these titles is that is gives so called journeyman a chance of a belt and title. If they have notice it normally turns into a good fight.
Personally I reckon Maxi Hughes above this level. Should be fighting for a English title.

Yeah true, I'd still like to see some sort of journeyman prizefighter (around light middle maybe there's plenty at or around that weight). Imagine all the lads given proper notice and no fear of the phone not ringing (because they wouldn't be upsetting the apple cart) would be great value.

Not sure what to think as more titles usually are things we could do without but area level fighters in competetive fights with a chance for them to win a bit of glory for all their hard work can't be all bad

I'm hoping to get a shot at the WBA interim Celtic international belt.

They could just fight for the Area title. They finally got rid of the Masters titles, then some idiot has come up with what is effectively a new version of them.

Area level fighters/champions from different areas fighting each other for these belts would make for some good matches though.

Just have a 10 round non title fight then, or fight for the English/Celtic title where possible. There's enough belts already.

Sadly that doesn't happen often enough though does it, maybe with a belt promoters (and some fans to be fair) would be more attracted by those type fights.

Agree the English title is increasingly under used and under valued for me.

promotors need some belt to sell their shows with its not ideal but its far better than them masters titles as I said its basically for ticket sellers who are not good enough to fight for an area Title but could fight for this belt against a journey man put this scenario together if the board sanctioned a ticket seller who was not good enough to fight for an area title and he got stopped early on how many tickets do you think he would sell when he fought again Promotors have to make money or else they go out of business simple as that Also i beleive that the sanctioning fee for these Challenge belts is far less than the masters titles and none of the masters sanctioning fees was ever reinvested in the sport so i think its a good idea but time will tell

Just seems like another worthless title to me, another one to add to a very long list, there's a lot that could be done away with and no one would care.

Area
English
British
Commonwealth
European
One inter-continental per sanctioning body, used properly for fights between top contenders, not upcoming fighter v bum to get a ranking.
World

Similar structure can be followed in pretty much every country without the Commonwealth step. Regional, national, continental, inter continental, world. Add another step in between regional and national in large countries, for example in America, state title, regional title, US title.

Titles might help promoters sell fights now, but I don't think they do any good long term. Boxing needs to move away from the whole idea that a title is necessary to sell a fight. Get rid of the unnecessary titles, make good fights and in time they will sell.

You seem to know a fair bit about these challenge titles, anywhere online with any info I couldn't find anything earlier.

Pretty much nail on the head. Ideally we wouldn't have any belts below area title but the Masters were and the Challenge belt will be an integral part of small hall boxing.

It may be a "worthless" title to you, however the fact that people are fighting for these titles would indicate that they are not worthless to everybody.

Not everybody can be a British champion (never mind a Commonwealth, European or World champion) but that does not mean that they should be deprived the opportunity of fighting for a title that is reflective of their abilities.

Just as other sports have different titles/leagues etc. this is just the boxing equivalent.

eg. you have the FA cup in football and the FA Vase for non-league (plus loads of local cups) - nobody would say to a footballer if they can't win the proper FA cup then the Cleethorpes and District Challenge cup isn't worth having, so why do people do it to boxers ?

In my opinion, if it gives a boxer an earner and the opportunity to have their day in the sun then why not ?

If you can't understand that the proliferation of meaningless titles that are only available to collect sanctioning fees and for promoters to sell fights aren't good for boxing then I don't know where to start.

There's already Area, English and Celtic titles in place for the fighters that don't reach British title level, not everyone can be a champion, if they're not good enough to win an area title, which are easily available and journeymen opponents can be found to fight against for them, then they aren't good enough to be a champion. Not everyone can be a champion.

The whole idea of a title is that you are a champion of something, region, nation, continent, world, whatever, if you want to use the Cleethorpes and District Cup as an example then the winner is the best team in Cleethorpes that year. The Area titles are well worth winning, I wouldn't slag a fighter off for winning them, but what exactly does winning this Challenge title prove?

They might help promoters sell tickets and give fighters a payday, I don't care. I couldn't give a single fornicate about what might be good for a few individuals now, if it isn't going to do boxing any good in the long run. Individuals doing whatever they can to make more money out of boxing is what has led to the sport becoming marginalised in recent decades, I don't understand the attitude that it's somehow ok for them to do that. Boxing owes them nothing.

Expe - I hardly think that the introduction of Masters / Challenge titles will result in the downfall of the sport of boxing !

What they will do is give decent pro's a fair crack at a tangible achievement to show for their boxing career.

Just because you may disagree is not a big deal - don't read too deeply into things, the world is not going to end of somebody disagrees with you.

Not that one belt specifically no, but it's belts like that, with absolutely no meaning to them that will. There's dozens of titles like it that need to be binned.

There's already more than enough titles out there for them to go for, if they want a belt then they can fight for their Area title.

Sometimes theres no one to fight for an area title

Perfect example is midlands light heavy title ricky summers has been trying to get a match for ages with no joy.

These challenge belts could be really good if they keep a degree of quality with the matching and if somebody actualy bothers defending them
