Is Khan the only realistic & marketable fight left for Floyd?

Look at the realistic contenders:

GGG - would need to be at 154. Would hate to see GGG boiling down and doubt Floyd wants any part of him anyway.
Cotto rematch - again needs to be at 154, although I could see Floyd insisting on a catch weight.
Pac rematch - Pac is injured and needs a significant win before this is marketable again.
Thurman - not an established enough name and poses too much risk.
Brook - ditto.
Porter - easy night for Floyd. Porter has the win over Broner but I would hate to see this.
Khan - established name in the States, would sell significant PPVs in UK and generate interest in other regions.
Berto - surely just a red herring when Floyd mentioned his name?
Mundine - has called Floyd out. Could sell in Australia but nobody else knows him.
McGregor - not as far fetched as you may think. McGregor publicly stated that he would love to box Floyd. For Floyd this would be the easiest of nights and would likely be a successful promotion with McGregor selling his side well and the whole Boxing vs MMA angle. Don't forget Floyd has already ventured into other areas in the past to boost his profile - the US dancing show, and a part in a major wrestling event. McGregor would get humiliated but would come out the other side a much richer man with a far higher profile than he had.

For me it seems to be between Cotto, Porter and Khan, with Khan being the fight that would interest me most.

That's simplifying it a bit.

If you say that Porter is an easy nights fight then it's only fair to put the same line in for Khan.

Although a fight against Khan might sell a few ppvs in the UK, would it be enough to justify Khan financially. Mayweather knows he is the sale in this country, Khan on his own is not. Khan would no doubt expect a significant payday based on UK ppv but i'm sure Mayweather will rightly demand a large portion of the sales. Would the overall sales be able to cover the purse for Mayweather and the money that Khan wants?

Porter is crude and easy to hit but has a good work rate.

Khan is fast, more skilled, not as easy to hit, and also has a good work rate.

Porter seems to have a better chin than Khan (who doesn't at the weight), but I don't think the chin would be as much of a factor against Floyd who doesn't score many KO's.

For a fight against Porter it would be like watching the Maidana fights again. I'd rather see something different - Khan brings that. Floyd may well be able to time and clip Khan but until that happened Khan would surely be making the rounds close. For as long as he's in the fight Khan would be landing on Floyd far more than any previous opponent has.

Cotto for the Middleweight title? I think Cotto's display against Geale makes it marketable.

The main thing for me though is, will Khan generate enough extra income for the fight in order to get the purse that he wants? The average American fan won't give him a chance of beating Mayweather so it might be a hard sell to them, it would be on at 4am over here and in the eyes of Joe Public, he'll have less chance than Hatton so i can't see it doing 1m on PPV in this country.

Cotto is perhaps the most interesting fight on the list, with the Middleweight title being on the line.

However, if I was Cotto I would steer clear of Mayweather. He has fought and lost decisively to him before, and he already has the big money fight on the table against Canelo Alvarez....where he probably gets his career high purse.

In which fight is Cotto more likely to sustain the most damage: Mayweather or Canelo?

it wouldbe better to see algieri against mayweather. weve never seen mayweather against a tall fighter. algieri is improving, and has fought a better class of opponent than khan, plus , in my eyes he deserved the victory against khan.

Well, McGregor's getting wrestled to death come Saturday so you can forget that silly option.

Khan isn't the big name many think he is. A lot of British fans don't like his attitude which wasn't helped by how he's ducking Kel.

The rest are all options vs. Mayweather, his profile is bigger right now than its ever been. Yeah the Pac fight left a bad taste in the mouth of many, but clever promotional hype will soon erase that from memories.

Maybe he'll hold off until Pac is ready for the rematch, but I reckon it will be a catchweight rematch with Cotto myself.

Is this a wind up

Valid point. However, at this point in Cotto's career, I just can't see him thinking like that. One more loss and I think he will hang his gloves up regardless, and Canelo (in my opinion) is a real 50/50 fight, whereas Mayweather isn't.

Does anyone think Crawford could give him a good fight?
Personally I'd love to see him step up and fight Floyd. He probably doesn't bring enough money to the table though.

I can see him fighting Khan next fight.

If Canelo was to beat Cotto then I can see the Canelo rematch for Floyds 50th fight. Easy sell that would do even bigger numbers than the first fight in the USA.

I don't see why Bradley is an unrealistic opponent.

The Mayweather hates Arum nonsense is not a real excuse.

What about Danny Garcia?

Yes good shout, I had forgotten about him. Undefeated and with enough quality wins under his belt to make it sellable (Khan, Mathysse, Peterson, Morales, Judah), yet you'd expect a very easy night for Floyd. If I was in Floyd's boots this is probably the match up I'd favor most.

I'm not massively bothered about Mayweather vs Khan to be honest.

He is no better than the rest, and less deserving than most.

People like Garcia knocked Khan sideways. Yet they are not even wildcards.

Brook or Thurman are the only real contenders in the division at present. Floyd has already defeated Canelo and Cotto.

Whomever Floyd fights will be one sided affairs. I'd even throw a boiled-down GGG into a loss too.

GG - would need to be at 154. Would hate to see GGG boiling down and doubt Floyd wants any part of him anyway.

Floyd won't be going anywhere near GGG, he's too big, too good and Floyd isn't stupid enough not to know this

Cotto rematch - again needs to be at 154, although I could see Floyd insisting on a catch weight.

Doesn't matter about the weight, what the hell are weight divisions these days anyway? They have ceased to mean anything. If Cotto beats Canelo, he will fight Floyd.

Pac rematch - Pac is injured and needs a significant win before this is marketable again.

Totally wrong, Pac is a mega star, he doesn't need to do anything. He is by far the biggest money fight for Floyd, by a million miles. He will out draw everyone else on the list combined.

Thurman - not an established enough name and poses too much risk.

Agreed. Id love to see it tho.

Brook - ditto.

I don't know how much of a risk he is to Floyd, but yeah, not enough of a name

Porter - easy night for Floyd. Porter has the win over Broner but I would hate to see this.

I think it could be a very tricky flight for Floyd, if Cotto loses and Pac doesn't want it, i think he will get the nod.

Khan - established name in the States, would sell significant PPVs in UK and generate interest in other regions.

PPV in the UK won't come into the decision process, its the Floyd show, pure and simple. Doesn't seem to have connected with the US fans, brings a fair amount of risk and not a great deal of reward. Not happening.

Berto - surely just a red herring when Floyd mentioned his name?
Unless he's on standby in case everyone else gets struck down with bird flu, or mad cow disease.

Mundine - has called Floyd out. Could sell in Australia but nobody else knows him.

Australia is irrelevant, brings nothing whatsoever to the table. No chance.

Yes, it is as far fetched as you think. Pigs will land on the moon before McGregor fights Floyd, or any other boxer.
McGregor is a pro wrestler, pure and simple. He is a talker, a worker and knows how to get his name out there. He is so smart how he promotes himself, the fact people are talking about him fighting Floyd is very very impressive.
