Tommy Hearns Vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr

How great would this fight have been? I think this would have been a really tough fight for Floyd. Tommy in his hay day threw bombs with both hands and considering Floyd's lack of knockout power, Tommy's legs would not be as much of an issue as it was in the Hagler spectacle or the first fight with SRL.
Tommy's reach and size would cause Floyd some serious problems. I would give Tommy Hearns the nod in this one. What do you think?

I got the great Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Ranked way ahead of the great Thomas Hearns. But in a fight, PBF won't be able to beat Hearns. You got to be AGGRESSIVE TO BEAT HEARNS. Floyd won't be able to outbox Tommy. No way!

So are you saying Hearn's style is the reason he would defeat Mayweather?

So what we need to compare is a 23 year old Hearns.(last time he was a welter)
to a 30 year old Mayweather?
Why not make dream matches that are in the guys best weight divisions?

Could turn out something like Hearns vs. Benitez.
Isn't Mayweather the Wilfred Benitez of this era?

I have hearns winning this and by stoppage probably hearns had a fast jab with great reach and a height advantage . It could well be a case of the jabbing setting it all up for hearns

The Hitman's physical advantages would be all wrong for anybody. THE ONLY WAY, to beat him was to apply constant pressure. PBF is not an aggressive fighter. He does not have the punch and surely, he would not be able to outbox the Hitman.

Mayweathers style is made for Tommy......TBE lack of punching power will work BIG time in Hearns favour plus the DEVASTATING PUNCHING
POWER OF THE HITMAN at welterweight and him being the naturally bigger guy would keep TBE in DEFENESIVE MODE FOR LONG STRETCHE'S DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE FIGHT............For TBE HITMAN'S SIZE/JAB/POWER WAY TOO MUCH............HEARNS UN DEC

only way Floyd wins is to go looking for tommy but that isn't in his mantra, other wise he`s on the end of the long reach of hearns jab,tbh I don`t think Floyd`s dad or his uncle roger would let him go within a city limit of hearns

At welter there's not much chance of Floyd doing a great deal other than moving away from Hearns, I think it'd be like the Benitez bout (I do know that was at light middle). Hearns was very quick and hit terribly hard, Floyd has not faced a boxer similar to Hearns and I agree with the poster who said that Floyd's trainers/family would not risk his health v Hearns (though he'd probably box him now).

The first right crosss Tommy hits Floyd with coldcocks him around 53 seconds of the first, leaving him crying for daddy.

This is THE nightmare matchup for Floyd. I can't think of any opponent you could put him in with that I'd see him faring worse with than Tommy. Tommy would be brutalizing him with his jab and body punches, outboxing him (very few could do that, but Tommy could and would) and when that right hand found the mark it's curtains. Tommy would dominate Floyd.

No way Mayweather would fight Hearns' anywhere nears Hearns' best. He didn't have the guts to do that.

He padded his record with fights against big names who were past their best. This is not exactly breaking news.

I have never seen anybody out box Tommy Hearns when in his prime or for that matter past his prime this style wise would be a very tough fight even for the great Floyd Jr I cannot see Floyd fighting on the backfoot and out pointing Tommy he would need to be aggressive and that would be suicide against the Hitman Tommy wins a un dec

Floyd would see lunch if he fought Tommy Hearns... You musta forgot that styles make fights
Floyd has one of the sneakier right leads in the History of Boxing -- and ask yourself what punch Hearns got hit with... Leonard, Hagler, and Barkley all nailed Hearns with big right hands -- knocking Tommy out in fact.
Mike McCallum, Michael Nunn (who beat Barkley), Reggie Johnson, Nigel Benn (who beat Barkley), James Toney (who beat Barkley), Julian Jackson, and Harol Graham would have all taken Tommy, among other fighters who would have beaten Hearns up and put him OUT!!.. You also have to ask yourself if Mayweather had a better and sneakier right hand lead and counter than the guys who knocked Hearns out.
Now Floyd hasn't scored a KO in the last 6 years because he's 40...but he won the majority of his career fights by KO.. Welterweights he knocked out include Sharmba MItchell.. Victor Ortiz.. and RIcky Hatton .... Hearns didn't necessarily have a stronger chin than those folks.
The fight could end 3 ways.. 1: Floyd could nail Tommy to the floor like Hagler and Barkley did---I don't think Tommy's chin was that great... 2: Floyd could wear him out and pound him to a stoppage like Leonard did when skinny Tommy ran out of gas.. 3. It could be a dominant decision for Floyd.
If you think Tommy had 2 much firepower for Floyd-- remember that Floyd is noted for being the best defensive boxer in the history of the sport and Hearns was noted for having holes in his defense that you could drive a right hand through.

Do you go against consensus in the hope that you look smart by hoping to point out something everybody else may have missed?
You run Floyd into the ground saying he wants no part of Thurman, Porter etc
Then come here and say he'd either knock out Hearns (Mayweathers not knocking out anyone), he grind him down (Mayweathers not grinding down anyone) or Utd be a lopsided points decision (ok Mayweather does do this, but no way against Hearns),
I don't class you as completely clueless kalan, but you really come out with some shockers.
Hearns vs Mayweather would be as close as there is to a sure thing in sport, for Hearns. I don't even need to go into detail

I've no idea why you seem to over-rate Floyd so badly.
as some other guy says on some other thread:
Kalan wrote:
You've never seen Floyd completely master prime, undefeated World Champion caliber fighters with the ability of Nicholas Walters and Gary Russell... And you've never seen Floyd move up a weight class and take out a World Champion the way Lomachenko knocked out Rocky Martinez..
if Floyd never even tested himself against a fistic great like Nicholas Walters, and that is supposedly to his detriment, I don't know how he could even have the nerve to share a ring with Hearns.
