Monzon - Napoles fight analysis

This is a longer video than some i've done, so bear with it...

My excuse is that this fight, even though it was only short in number of rounds, displayed the qualities of both fighters well, so thought i'd highlight both of their strengths in the same video.

Monzon v Golovkin anyone??

Superb stuff as per arlovski :salut:

Napoles was a beautiful technician but Monzon was a beast, with some beautiful technique of his own as your clip shows

Keep it up mate :TU:

tremendous stuff, thanks. Monzon reminds me just a little of Arguello, in the kindof, 'tall puncher who's better technically than you might expect' sense. You're right on the speed of Monzon's right hand, though. Arguello would have killed to get shots off that quickly (and, indeed, probably killed half the people he fought)

Cheers lads.

Funnily enough mate, i never saw the similarities between the two (always thought Arguello had much better balance, variety on left hand, better inside etc) UNTIL i really started to properly study Monzon.
In the video for example - the right hook/uppercut to the body he throws all the time is exactly the same shot Arguello was a master of, which is a highly technically difficult shot to land imo, and not seen much at all these days.

And yeah, although Arguello didn't throw the right hand with as much speed/commitment as Monzon did, his posture when throwing it is exactly the same, incredible hip and shoulder rotation and perfectly judged distance and finishing position of the shot.
Only noticed the similarities myself when making this vid - so good shout :TU:

Monzon was simply more a fast-twitch dude than Arguello. which as you say on the vid, taken all-in-all, meant Monzon had a pretty scary set of physical gifts.

Argentine fighters were always 'complete fighters' in the truest sense of the phrase because they engaged in battle royals at home before they were released on to the world scene. Victor Galindez, for example, took on Juan Aguilar nine times, Avenamar Peralta six times and Jorge Ahumada four times in the space of just three years - winning and losing. I'm not quite sure what the rush was with Galindez but, like Monzon, he was a fairly unpleasant individual by the time he made it out.

This is why I want to see GGG vs Lara, although I'm not comparing either boxer to Monzon and Napoles, its always good to see a strong boxer take on a smooth boxer.
There are so many probabilities at the start of the fight for the fans. Always makes it worth watching.
Once again thanks for the vid.

Monzon had that really languid style…very deceiving…

He was an almost perfect 15 round fighter.

Amazing to think he was a smoker too. That’s what was so great about sportsmen in the 1970s…
