Degales defection pretty much settled it.

After his last two fights I think this is the right decision. He 'righted a wrong' at Wembley by doing a proper job on Groves but the two fights with him showed that he's lost a little bit and I'd absolutely have hated him to go on and not match the heights of his career.

I still think he'd have stopped GGG but what a marvellous career, thanks for the memories Carl.

I knew he would. Not being respectful as I do admire him. He ended up like Calzaghe. Inflated self worth to the point where the thought of losing was truly terrifying, call it an ego I guess. Seeing what Froch became after the first Groves fight. It must have taken a hell of a lot to have stepped back into the ring against Groves again. I do admire him for that. When I read he was crying before the fight in the changing room I wasn't surprised at all.

He was never going to fight again. Great fighter and I hope he has a nice life away from boxing.

Gave us some special moments, a true warrior and its really nice to see someone retire at the top of his game.

Fantastic career and one of the great all time Brits. His resume will take some beating for back to back fights.

I salute you Carl 'The Cobra' Froch Been one hell of a ride and I've enjoyed watching it from the very start to finish.

I too, think he would have beaten GGG but if the desire isn't there, then he might have got a battering.

What an entertaining career and one of the few who can really be called a warrior.

Glad to have had the opportunity to follow his career from the world amateurs onwards.

He's the only fighter in history to beat George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Stadium.

Good luck to him, just about the right time to call it a day.

For me the best thing was he was one of those fighters you remember following and rooting for right from the start.

Anyone remember BBC's 'Real Class of 2002', which included Froch, Matt Thirlwall, David Walker, a few other guys? I am very grateful to have got the chance to see his entire career and follow his progress, from the poetic situation of watching his Bethnal Green fights on a black and white TV in a university room, to observing his defeat of Groves in front of 80,000 delirious observers at Wembley. In my opinion that's what makes being a boxing fan special. It happened with Audley, Haye, Froch, and now it's happening with Joshua.

I just need to see the Henry Porras fight to have seen all his bouts now, which I am happy to see is available on YouTube.

Gutted but glad for Froch,he's earned it,his records up there with Mayweather and Pacquiao, a true fighting man

Boxing just got a bit poorer

The Taylor fight was the turning point for me. Until then I watched but didn't really give a hoot, from then on though my opinion of him grew and grew. Superb to watch.

Great decision. Although I think that he would have beaten Golovkin, there would always be another opponent the public would want him to box.
When you look at his career in the round, from a school boy joining a gym wanting to learn how to box, to finishing his career as a multiple world champion with plenty of money and his marbles in tact, then you have to say that it is a very good career.

In short, he went in with everyone and beat all the top fighters (with the exception of Ward*) and now has an interesting job lined up as a pundit -he is an excellent pundit; very incisive and honest, and good on the details.

I wish him a very happy retirement from boxing and would like to say thank you for the memories. I also enjoyed his quib on Radio 4 this morning saying 'I'm not sure if you are aware, but I flattened Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Arena :) What a way to finnish your career.

*He lost to Ward, but I would liked to have seen Ward travel over here, as Froch was a better fighter with a whole crowd behind him.

He's been a great servant and should be long remembered for his excellent career.

Have to say it's quite bitter sweet that Carl has officially retired now. I am made up for him that he's bowed out with his faculties intact but from a selfish point of view I'm sad we'll never see him in the ring again. He has given us so many great nights and he deserves all the accolades and praise. I look forward to his punditry as he's good to listen to most of the time. Does anyone know if Robert McCracken trains any other pro fighters or was it just Carl and the GB squad?

He knows Golovkin would beat him into a bloody pulp, unrecognizable to the lovely Rachel.

Pascal fight for me

Great career, especially before Eddie got hold of him. My only issue with his resume is that once he turned over into a PPV star we never saw him fight the very best... before that, when he was largely unheard of outside of boxing circles, he fought everyone. Credit to him for that. Just wish we'd have seen a Ward, Golovkin or Stevenson fight on a big stage with all the hype that would have surrounded it, that would have been a great way to finish.

This. I would have loved to see Froch have a crack at Ward over here, but I'm happy he's retired, and I'm happy he finally got some of the paydays he thoroughly deserved. I think Eddie Hearn did a cracking job with him.

Great fighter, great career and wish him all the best in retirement. I followed him from a pretty early stage in his career and he was great value. Also went to see him live at the Magee, Dodson, Rybacki and Bute fights. The atmosphere at the Bute fight was probably the best I've been in at a boxing event.

I think it's the right time for him to go out now. I disagree that he would have beaten GGG. I actually think GGG would have bashed him up pretty badly at this stage as I think he has diminished significantly as a fighter since the 2nd Kessler fight. He would have given it a good go at his peak though.
