Will Ward duck Sergey Kovalev?

Ward keeps shamelessly calling out boxers from smaller weight divisions.
He wants to fight Floyd Mayweather at 160.
Ward has been repeatedly demanding Gennady Golovkin move up to 168 to fight him, but it's not a lucrative fight for GGG. If Ward wants him so bad, why not move down to 160?
Why won't Ward start talking about Sergey Kovalev, who is the same size although not as thickly built as Ward?
The egotistical self-declared "Son of God" demanded a 172 catch weight for his last fight, that weight is considered light heavyweight. Kovalev was a middleweight in the amateurs, Ward fought at light heavyweight.
Sergey's experience with Cedric Agnew and excellent preparation for Bernard Hopkins has taught him to avoid head butts. And Sergey is strong enough to resist Ward's clinching and clamping his arms. So it would be a fair fight: skill against skill, power against power.

Because Ward could not safely make 160 - he's a big guy.
How is Ward ducking him exactly?

He is a big guy, but he said he would go down to 160 for Mayweather.
Chad Dawson went down to 168 for him.

Ward never mentions Kovalev, although Sergey says he definitely wants to fight the egotistical self-proclaimed Son Of God.
But he keeps calling out the smaller Golovkin. There's a new article every few days with Ward making new comments about GGG.

Calling out GGG is not the same thing as ducking Golovkin, correlation does not equal causality.

No, he's not avoiding GGG, although he refuses to fight him at 160 or a 164 catch weight and demands Golovkin move up to 168.
He's avoiding Kovalev and the prime boxers at 168 like DeGale, and instead focusing on smaller men like GGG.

Ward is avoiding Kovalev? Whatever.
GGG wants the fight at 164, Ward at 168. I don't look at it as ducking by either guy if you are talking about different weight divisions.

I don't think Ward is ducking Kovalev, but if people are going to accuse GGG of ducking Ward it's easy to apply similar standards to Ward-Kovalev.

Freedom is just giving Ward fans what they give GGG fans.
No harm no foul.

He's trying to...but failing.
But you have to have your hands on GGG's scrotes pretty tightly to think the comparison is the same.
Ward has never talked seriously about moving up anytime in the near future.
By contrast, every other thing GGG says is about a fight in a different weight class.
Big difference.

I am just curious why there are so many different standards for fighters moving up or down

I think it starts with whether or not the fighter himself expresses the desire to move up or down.
If so, then yes hold him accountable.
If no, then it's kinda juvenile to project your own fanboy wishes on someone else's reality.

Isnt it the same story with floyd and ward. Claiming tbe, sog, calling out this and that, and when they get called they demand unrealistic or extreme benefits to actually get in the ring ? Damn idiots, making this sport look like a bloody bitch fight in junior high.

I guess Kovalev is the big winner here in the who ducks who sweepstakes. No one is mentioning Kovalev moving down in weight to fight Ward.

Just like ggg isn't ducking ward, ward isn't ducking kovalev. Only an idiot would think so.
If ward starts fighting at 175 full time and doesn't fight kovalev then we can start talking. Until that happens, let him fight guys in his own division. The division where he has never ducked anyone.

No, it is not the same.
Ward is content at 168. Floyd is content at 147 and 154.
Neither guy is talking about fighting in 3 or 4 weight classes like GGG is.

Or up to fight Wlad.
I think everyone needs to calm down about fighters ducking one another.

Be interesting to see if Ward can still make SM on a regular basis.
He'd be a great addition To a fantastic LH division.
Ward has never ducked a fight. He just makes them travel to Oakland.

Reckon he can, he's solidly packed at 168, but he's not looked to struggle so far.
Much better fights for him at 175. He's in with naturally bigger men though.

Maybe its been said, but according to Kathy Duva they have started negotiations for Ward vs Kovalev for late 2016. Ward wants to fight GGG first before moving up in weight - not the other way around. GGG said he would move up if the money was right for a big fight, so hope it happens. I'm not sure GGG wants the fight at 168 though.

"Started negotiations" means nothing. Yes, Kovalev wants that fight, but Ward isn't even sure that he is moving up. They just didn't say "no" right away, but it doesn't mean they have any intention to fight.

As ever - money talks.
If they think there's enough money, to take the risk of moving up to fight a naturally bigger man, they will.
