A steroid? Decent boxer. I bet he could have done just as well without anything like that. It sounds like from the statement of the Agency that he might have claimed ignorance, or that there was no intention to cheat. Why can't every body just get by on eggs, chicken, brocolli and milk? It's so much easier, believe me.

Saw him in a little documentary in Sheffield not long back. If he knew about this then he's a complete moron - if he didn't, then it's a bit unlucky - but for obvious reasons the drugs agencies can't accept ignorance as an excuse. Either way I hope he can put it behind him and come back, he's not all that old, even for a boxer.

It sounds like he hasn't had a fight since last September then....I wonder what reason was given for his inactivity, if any, before this came out.

How much power does the UKAD have?

Could he fight abroad or even in the UK under the MBC? And would there be any enforceable long term consequences beyond the ban date if he were to find a way around it?

He needs to follow the Dillian Whyte route to rehabilitation if he does this he can come again he has done a year nearly already sad day though.

Why is that obvious? I'm just wondering what it means and whether he is bound by it. If it was me, and I felt it was entirely innocent then I would do whatever it took for me to progress with my career. If it was blatant cheating then he should just quietly see it out.

Didn't Kenny Anderson say his wife spiked him with amphetamines?

Possible sidetrack. The testing bodies have their upper range limits and competitors and 'support staff' in lots of sports are getting more and more efficient in ensuring their levels are just on the right side of being legit. It doesn't mean they're clean but it does mean they can pass the tests. Those that are caught have usually been careless.

Big Larry is one, mainly 'cos he got caught with so much gear he had to confess because otherwise he'd be locked up until the Space Year 3432. But I can't think of a single other one.

Not starting, but taking things at face value, either there's a hell of a lot of poor, put-upon combat athletes who get caught in a huge conspiracy of injustices, or, y'know, the majority who get caught are basically lying liars who cannot stop lying & whilst they are quite happy turning themselves into MechaGodzilla lack any inclination to go "Fair cop, guv. Me dabs are all over it" etc etc.

I'm all for erring on the side of zero tolerance. If you can't load your gloves, you can't take 'roids & compete in a combat sport.

If Galahad is innocent, then it sucks big-time, it's terrible & awful & I hope he finds peace & solace in his life, somehow, & sincerely hope that his brother will be in for the shoeing of a lifetime when he gets out.

But if you go "Ah, right, so this particular case, your highly implausible story will get you off", why not believe that Chael Sonnen/Lamont Peterson/Andre Berto/whomever really suffer from a 1-20,000,000 rare glandular condition (despite looking like He-Man when everyone else with that condition looks like me), they just forgot to mention it before failing a drugs test?

Reading the papers, some of these weight cutting tablets are dicey as fornicate.

He was never going to get off after he got caught, shame as he could of been fighting in a world title eliminator by now.

I really can't see any legitimate resolution to PEDs in sport. If athletes are doing all they can to take as many supplements and stimulants as possible but not be detected at a test, then surely that's not fair on the athletes that don't take anything, if there is any.


There must be a case to just let them all take as many PEDs as they want and then see who's the best?

PED testing in boxing is a fvcking joke anyway. If it was carried out properly & regularly, I reckon 90% of top level boxers would end up banned.

It's a joke in all sports. Like I said earlier providing your levels are below the allowable maximum for your particular sport, you can take PEDs and pass the tests with ease. Usain Bolt has been tested hundreds of times and never failed, yet the wave in his performances scream of PED cycling. There are several well know heavyweights who gain a suspicious amount of lean mass during the blocks of training leading up to their fights, they've all been tested and passed.

Testing in boxing is as good as it can be. The problem is the top chemists can earn more by assisting elite level athletes in providing masking agents, cycle and stack systems than they can by working for the sporting bodies. The cheats will by and large be one step ahead.

Barry's case is somewhat unusual for boxing in that he was caught with an out and out ped rather than a banned substance hidden away in an over the counter supplement.

I didn't read the story and some cases are worse than others, but..... has a boxer ever just said, "yeah, hands up, I cheated"

One day PED's are going to cost an opponent his life.

There should be categories for the different types and the length of the ban should be reflected by them.

Life bans for anyone on the most serious PEDs and no place in the HOF. That's how I feel.
