Does anyone else do this?

You have a boxrec profile open, and you then want to find another boxer. You can’t be bothered to type the name into Boxrec’s (until recently, poor) search function, so you set yourself the challenge of clicking through the fighters until you get there.

I thought the most impressive one was to get from Anthony Joshua to Muhammad Ali in 5 moves

(AJ beat Skelton,
who beat Williams,
who beat Tyson,
who beat Holmes,
who beat Ali).

In this case, Larry Holmes is probably the best middle man, linking the best of two eras.

But this morning I managed to get from Hughie Fury’s page, to Andre Ward. Significantly different weight classes. Can you do it? The trick is to find the middle men!

I have done this from time to time when I am bored lol. I also try and go from a low weight up to the highest weight I can. RJJ is a good link. I need to get out more!

Yeah you got it. Once I remembered that Roy Jones beat John Ruiz at heavyweight, then the rest unfolded easily

I'm sure there's a quicker way but I took the root from Fury to McPhilbin to Maccarinelli to Haye to Thompson to Eubank to Calzaghe to Kessler to Ward.

Plenty of alternative routes using 4 connections, i'm sure there's a route using 3 connections but it wont be easy to dig out.

I doubt theres a shorter route than this.

About ten years ago I wrote an article which took me from Jimmy Wilde to Mike Tyson in 15 steps.

And a quick search shows me that it's still on the web. Stone the bloody crows.

I take it a step further, if I think of a fighter, who's record I want to look at, I start with the #1 in the division now and go back. I wanted Jack Dempsey the other day and it took ages.

I struggle with prospects, but still give it a go.

I sometimes just start with Wlad and make my way down the divisions to someone like Michael Nunn.

I once went all the way from the first flyweight world champion to Wlad, took about half an hour and I had to press the back button a few times.

wow I didn't think about Joe Bugner, he's an excellent era-spanner.

Excellent work, I'd never heard of Mirovic! James Toney is another good stepping stone, he has fought at several weights over three decades

Haha yes he did; I have that fight on tape somewhere. He's been in some great scraps has Danny.

Can anyone get from Flintoff to Naz? Took me 15 but can probably be done in less.

Just did Naz to Tyson with 7 names linking them, the route is pretty obvious, i reckon it could possibly be done with 6 names, 5 would be very impressive. Any anoraks out there?
