I know he is from ukraine but does anyone know something about his Background. usually eastern european fighters tend to have a more straightforward style with a high guard, upright stance and mostly straight punches.

Loma is much different, he punches from all angles, has all the headmovement techniques and creative footwork, basically he boxes like an american boxer.

why does he box so differently from other eastern european Boxers. those eastern Boxers usually have hard punches but quite straightforward and not very creative styles, he does not box at all like kovalev or klitschko (no disrespect to them as they are great Boxers, just not very creative).

is there a Change in teaching in eastern (or ukrainian at least) boxing or did he somehow learn that from himself (Videos...)?

Watch Usyk too. Very different than the old style. It has been changing for years but probably the chance to see other fighters has been part of it. Remember a piece on Usyk where he mentioned Roy Jones has a fighter he liked.

He learned it from his father. Lot of Ukrainians fight in similar, footwork oriented, technical style. For example Usyk and Silakh. Also watch early Klitschko fights before Steward, you will recognize some of Loma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMgYSrbeZaY

Generally it is a misconception that Eastern Europeans fight high guard, straight forward style. I would say it is more of a central European/German style. Few of the top former Soviet fighters can be characterized as that. Klitschkos, Tszyu, Karmazin, Lebedev, Golovkin, Kovalev, none of them fight behind the tight guard.

Some good points,id never thought it about it like that before

Young Wlad was a joy to watch offensively.

Jabs, straights, overhands, hooks off the jab, body shots, and 3-5 punch combos all with power and speed. Also easy to see how that style was more draining than his current one.

For what is worth I train a 27 year old Ukrainian and he always wants to watch Lomachenko - he has always said his Father has always trained him.

It will be interesting to see if future eastern european Boxers will be more like loma. it is a good Point that usyk also has a more varied style.

I agree that the closed high guard defensive style is more german (sturm, Abraham, Rocchigiani, schulz...) than eastern european, the eastern euro Boxers are boxing more openly (but still upright and sometimes defensively careless). but still a style like loma was not really seen in eastern europe before.

german boxer culcay also boxes a Little like that (but not as good). I think that the european Trainers and Boxers have watched guys like RJJ, mayweather and co and learn from them. can be only good for boxing.
