Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone know the actual rules about how often a boxer can fight? More than once a week? Less?

Also I know that if he gets stopped or KO'd then he cant box for a certain amount of time, but I cant remember how long that is?

Not within 7 days, 28 if they've been stopped.

Has to be 6 clear days between fights - applies to any BBBofC fighter, not just journeymen, but I appreciate journeymen are the ones most likely to use it. Suspensions are 28 or 45 days, depending on the severity of the injury or punishment taken - a fighter can still be suspended even if they have won a fight, if they have taken sufficient punishment in the opinion of the doctor to justify a suspension. In Prize fighter they could potentially fight 3 times on the same evening. Withstanding that though, yes you are correct.

Was just about to say that. We've seen some guys going into the second and third fights with some bad cuts and marks too.

And while we are at it, I believe there is at least one other exception - when a late sub steps in provided he has won his previous contest inside 2 rounds, I think he can do so less than 6 clear days after his previous fight. But I don't have my rule book to hand, so will need to check. No doubt others can enlighten me.

Didn't Mike Perez fight Tomas Mrazek and Edgars Kalnars on the same night? Is there any BBBofC rule governing that happening in the UK? (That happened on a Boxing Union of Ireland show)

How many did George Foreman fight in one evening, five wasn't it? Mind you, given some of the people small-hall US shows, I don't think that they have any regulations.

You would think that there would be a Board rule on this ?

Rules were changed a while back to allow for Prizefighter tournaments - they are allowed by Reg 5.4(b) of the Regulations, although the Board has to give consent to them each time.

Separately, Board or Area Council can override the "6 clear days" rule if a boxer is coming in as a late sub and won previous contest inside 2 rounds, but you can't box twice on the same day - Reg 5.4(a).

PS - although Prizefighter itself is an 8-man competition, so a maximum of 3 contests for one fighter, the Regulation that allows it (5.4(b))potentially allows up to 16 participants and 4 contests for a boxer on the same night. Query if that will ever actually happen, though.

3 prizefighter contests in one night is less than 1 normal 10 round contest if they all went the distance.

You are 100% correct in what you say also Simon block was the general secretary when the rules were changed to accomadate Prizefighter if my memory is correct it was a lengthy process to sell the idea to the boards insurers and solicitors etc

Yup, the board originally laughed the idea out of the room. They were dead against the name "Prizefighter" as they thought people would associate it with bare knuckle boxing and that the format was dangerous. I wonder what changed their minds?

The Board are a well respected and long established organisation, not like some of these new sanctioning bodies that have cropped up recently.
