That is actually a decent question, one of the reasons I doubted the intergrity when the story broke is because of who Danny is being promoted by. Although, given Danny's defeat by Sprott I think whatever he does will be considered a bonus, cause Skelton has taken his place as the #1 SN promoted Heavyweight.

"Frank delivers a fight" is a real interesting way of putting it - Tyson is a freakshow but a well-paying one, and Frank seized his chance to get in on some of that action with a fighter who's been going nowhere anyway. This will mean more money in Warren's pockets than Williams would have brought in his next ten fights vs. domestic and Eurocrap-level competition like he's been fighting - Warren would be a fool not to take it. In what way, shape or form is this anything other than simple maximization of profit potential? Not that there's anything inherently bad about that, it's just that Warren *only* cares about that, and risking his more-talented cash cows in an actual world-class title fight is something he hasn't done since when - Hamed/Barrera? Frank seems to have learned his lesson from that fight all too well...

Bit of an extreme comparison comparing Hopkins v Eastman to Tyson v Williams.

Hopkins is title holder Tyson isn't.

Eastman is mandatory and at least in the top 5 middleweights in the world, Williams isn't in the top 15 heavyweights in the world.

Hopkins v Eastman would be a genuine fight.

Tyson v Williams is curiosity value only.

He hasn't delivered anything I'll bet, more likely Tysons camp sought out Williams. Either way, a Warren fighter going in with a big name opponent is almost unheard of and it is only because Warren has no use for Williams, if he thought Williams had a marketable future he'd be fighting Tocker Pudwill's big brother on the undercard of Hatton fights.

What, we're supposed to be grateful that Sports Network has tossed his hat into the ring and agreed to let williams stand in for Kevin McBride, so that Tyson can earn some money, do us a favour, don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

Tyson's camp needed a stand-in opponent, and Williams was available, nothing more, nothing less. allegedly, being the biggest promoter in the country was probably first on their list to be contacted.

This is hardly a superfight is it? If Williams does manage to pull off a win he will have a big but sorely faded name on his resume, big deal, it will make him some money, but the fight is pretty meaningless in terms of the heavyweight title picture. Sure, Williams might get a title shot off the back of it, but a win over Tyson says nothing about his ability to beat the other men in the division, and will say more about how far Tyson has fallen.

As for Hennessey, of course he is lobbying the boards, have you not seen the fight posters he has been running for the past few years calling out Hopkins. The difference is that Hopkins has no real desire to face Eastman, partly because Eastman isn't making enough noise in the division, and partly because he is more interested in fighting DLH and then possibly Winky, then Tito in a rematch if he gets by Mayorga. Only then maybe will Eastman get a lookin, and the fact is, none of the sanctioning bodies give a shit that Eastman is #1, they don't want to piss on Nard's chips, because they like their sanctioning fees.

But you are correct, if Williams had any kind of future at all he would be fighting Karriem Respress on the undercard and Warren would go; "Look, he's fighting on a Tyson undercard. Can you see any other British heavyweights doing that?"

At least Etienne had real go at Tyson from the bell. Can't see Williams doing that, can you? However, I'm quite sure he'll end up the same way.

What Ettienne did was suicide, and I think he basically wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. McGirt instructed him to try and frustrate Tyson for a couple of rounds, and he just waded in like a lunatic. As he isn't a puncher he had no hope in hell of winning that way.

Quite true - Williams has got to be ultra cautious for the first couple of rounds. Try and keep Tyson away with a jab don't let him near you. The last two times he was extended beyond 2 rounds he was F'd after the 3rd.

I think "showing some balls" and going for Tyson is a bigger sign of the occasion getting to him than even freezing - cause either way he is not thinking properly. You don't come at a big puncher with poor footspeed, thats what DLH did in the rematch with Chavez and nearly paid the price for it. Williams MUST jab his head of and focus on defence for the first 3 rounds - then he has a chance.

Tyson says he's ready for a really big fight this time and is frustrated they aren't materialising. Up pops Ratko Draskovic, with a wonderful record of 30-5. A real veteran with big fight nous and a string of 'wins'.

Lol, yeah! And Warren will say that Tyson is still learning and will get the big fights when he's ready. He will say something along the lines of:

"Well, we tried to get him a fight with Vitali Klitschko, who is the current WBC champ, we got in touch with his people and they were asking for too much money. They aren't interested. But anyway, Mike's only 38, he hasn't even reached his prime yet, he's a kid, he's still learning, and when the time is right, I will deliver the big fights for him."

he didn't promote hamed when he fought barrera. hamed left warren after the wayne mccullough fight in october 1998.
