Which fighter would you say has better pure BOXING SKILL? Please discuss

easily cotto

Cotto may have an edge in some areas, but not much imo. Trout easily out-boxed Cotto, but didn't have such an easy time with Canelo.

This is an interesting fight, and contrast of styles. I think Canelo wins it by decision or late stoppage.

But what we tend to forget is boxers just like any other athletes have off nights, cotto definately looked a little off in that fight. If they rematched I would pick cotto

I agree, easily cotto based on his footwork. I see this as a very even fight and expect it to be close on fight night. I'll be puling for Cotto but doubt he gets the nodin a close fight..

You mean "the most overrated boxer in history?"

Their skills are relatively even at this time, though I shade Cotto. GingerHead's physical advantages should pull him through but Cotto's trainer has prepared Miguel better than canelos has lately.

Cotto will land his big left. How will GingerHead handle it? Otoh, will Cotto's defense suffice against the redheads onslaught?

I'll admit Cotto has looked great in his last 3 fights, but I'm not quite convinced he is better than he used to be. Roach is great at choosing opponents at the right time or style to make his fighters look better than they actually are. Add to that the catchweight BS. Lara, for example, would make Cotto look even worse than Trout did, so they won't fight him. Another they won't fight is Andrade. Another bad style match.

Of course they are choosing opponents carefully, and I despise catch weights, but Cotto's improved timing and leverage since employing Roche cannot be denied, and I am no fan of the man.

Cotto does have the better boxing skill but Cotto has had problems with Mexican Style in the past. I don't think that Cotto can hurt Canelo and Canelo will keep chasing him down and cutting off the ring and I think that the tide changes for good around the 8th. Either Cotto wins limping into the finish line or Canelo gets a knock out IMO.

I kind of lean this way on the result.It will either be a tough fought close ud for Cotto
or a 8-10th round ko for Canelo.
But no matter who wins I want to see it.To me this is a pretty even match up.

I think people need to pump the breaks on Cotto though. He's getting way more clout for his last 3 fights than he should. Two marginal boxers at best and 1 legend who was 40 years old with bad knees. Canelo is way different animal and he's flying high after a couple of eye opening wins against way better boxers (though i did have Lara winning that bout but i'm glad Lara didn't get the W for the style he chose for the fight).

Speed is definitley on Cotto's side but he will never be able to keep Canelo off him for 12 rounds. Canelo's chin is made of granite and he won't hit the canvas with anything Cotto's going to throw.

I think youre strongly mistaken on cotto not being able to hurt canelo. Boxing ability is cottos biggest advantage over ginger and given he does not have that one punch ko power, he does have that thudding power which is enough to break you down.

if cotto touches uo on canelos body it can be a long night for ginger. cotto can def stop canelo if he brings his best fight. wouldnt surprise me at all. thats what is interesting about this fight because canelo def has the ability to stop cotto himself with the size and power advantages. cotto has the foot work advantage

People age differently. Though I agree that Cotto was very very good that night, that Martinez was the worst Sergio I'd ever seen. The slide was already visible from the Murray fight.

fighters age differently, martinez relied alot on his legs for his effectiveness inside the ring. nobody with a level head on their shoulders can say that was the same martinez in there as the jcc fight. cotto might be a top fighter in mw but there is a reason he said to kellerman AM I A REAL MIDDLEWEIGHT? or something to that effect. cotto knows ggg is king of the division and doesnt want to take a beating when there are better money fights out there
