reading from Ciaran McVarnock that the Lee v Saunders fight is off due to lack of ticket sales......anyone heard anything?

He hasn't actually been told it's off by Billy Joe Saunders, Andy Lee, allegedly or Adam Booth, just that he's had a phone call off an unnamed person that it and now about 5 people are talking about it. Paschal Collins more or less confirmed that Steve will be doing commentary/punditry for it this morning on there, everyone involved seems to be preparing like normal.

Lack of ticket sales?!! Surely not! Strange one. I thought most folk were buzzing for this! The Irish love their boxing too.

I don't think it's been cancelled but I doubt they've shifted a load of tickets either, very little undercard confirmed can't have helped, all I know is Richard Towers, Ryan Burnett, Ciaran McVarnock and Josh Leather v Andy Colquhuon, none of which have actually been announced by allegedly or Adam Booth.

If it is off,and allegedly rely have lost out on the rights to klit vs fury then surely the death knell can't be far away from tolling on allegedly.

be surprised if it was, wanting to go but find it hard to get time off, hope it happens in london instead.

If true, and I only posted on another thread earlier today that I expect the fight will fall through, there is a kind of self fulfilling prophecy to the show being pulled, in that a section of ticket buying boxing fans will, these days, be reluctant to buy a ticket to a fwank show because of how frequent they fall apart. It is at least every other show he puts on and not all fans have the spare money to keep being let down. If ticket sales are not great that has got to be one factor.

I don't think it's anything to do with that, they just haven't sold as many tickets as they would have liked, casuals don't really have any clue on that sort of thing. The lack of promotion and an undercard is the real problem. I doubt Frank is too bothered about this, he'll get the fight over here like he always wanted.

He's done 10 shows this year and there's only 4 you could really say that they fell apart. Two of them were purely down to Abril, no promoter should get blamed if a fight involving him gets called off and one of those still had a world title on the bill. The two others were the Wembley shows, they lost Saunders and Eubank Jr off the first because they thought they were going to be fighting each other, then Chudinov from the second and that fight has now been rescheduled. Fights and shows don't turn out as planned, just the way it goes in boxing at times.

Im meant to be going to a show at the York Hall that weekend and i was gutted i was going to miss this card but im still pissed this show's been pulled

Have my ticket and was really looking forward to going and seeing a really good fight here in Ireland. Gutted. Don't believe in the virus and feel Frank never wanted Saunders to come over here.

Fwank should hire you expe. You make it sound like its no different with him, than with any other promoter. At the very least he should give you a few free tickets, of which he generally has a few thousand spare.

I don't see how it is any different, fights fall through on every show. The only one this year he could really be blamed for is the last show which did completely fall apart.

I understand the reasoning, but that's still nearly 50% of his shows falling apart within a year. Not exactly a great record, particularly when you consider previous form.

I can't help smiling at the idea that 'only' 40% of a promoter's shows falling apart isnt that bad.....

Not as bad as it looks when two were solely down to Abril, who pulls out more often than he actually fights. 40% is actually quite decent for Frank though, I was expecting it to be higher when I went to check.

Apparently they'd sold 15k tickets, surprised that they called it off if they did that without an undercard or much promotion, never going to sell out but they could have made it past 20k, which would still have been a good crowd.
