Just reading a piece about old Ken. Very underated fighter. Tough as old boots and a great technician.

Doubt any of our current crop of lightweights could have lived with him over 15 rounds in his peak.

Buchanan is a Hall of Famer and generally considered to be one of Britain's greatest ever fighters, so I don't really think he is a very underrated fighter.

Kenny was overlooked here. His magnificent world title win over Ismael Laguna in Puerto Rico barely made any headlines in the British (and particularly Scottish) media and he boxed only once in Britain as world champ. Much of his lack of recognition had to do with manager Eddie Thomas' frosty relationship with promoters Mickey Duff and Harry Levene. For the most part, Buchanan either boxed in sporting clubs or overseas.

My dad's favourite fighter. He met him one day on a building site in Paisley where Ken was working as a joiner. Never shuts up about it after a few beers!

Yes he's several leagues ahead of Mitchell, Crolla etc. No comparison whatsoever

Overlooked here but in the states he had shared top billing with Ali.

Roberto Duran speaks very highly of Ken as an opponent

There was a bit in the papers this week about Commonwealth Games gold medallist Josh Taylor's next fight,for those who didnt know Taylor is signed with McGuigan and Barry was in the press talking about Buchahan,he was saying how he(Barry) was preparing for a British title fight,they brought in an ageing Ken for sparring and McGuigan admitted Buchahan gave him a boxing lesson first spar

Remember he said he has a pain everytime he takes a leak thanks to Roberto Duran.

They got behind Burns and turned a good domestic fighter to a deserved two weight world champion.
Be great for British boxing if they get another one to get behind.

It's a shame that Buchanan has been struggling with alcohol like a lot of former sportsmen.

BBC did an interesting interview with Buchanan earlier this year. Winning the world title abroad in 30 degree plus heat with short notice is a great achievement.

chatting to former buchanan opponent brian hudspeth at the weekend. brian met with Kenny a few weeks ago and he seems to be getting himself together. lets hope so.

Didn't he suggest some kind of non-licence comeback a few years ago - which would have been terrible.

Hope he is turning it all around.

If Duran rates him so highly that tells everybody how good Ken was in his prime IMO a truly magnificent fighter was Ken

Didn't he have some sort of legal wrangle a few years ago? Tried to sue a paper that said he sold his belts to make cash. Couldn't work, no money etc. He admitted himself it was "stupid".

I remember getting a DVD set of his years ago and finding some fights on there that weren't on his record then someone told me he'd done the unlicensed scene in the 80s. Have I imagined this?

Ken Buchanan sounds like he was a very talented fighter, and one tough c*nt. I think I would have enjoyed watching this fella. The Scottish fans must have been proud of having someone of that standing - although he wasn't the first world class fighter to come out of Scotland.

No your correct I remember reading this in his autobiography. He struggled to give up fighting in the end and had a few unlicensed bouts.
