15 rounds, light-heavy limit, primes.
How do see this one playing out?

Gosh this is a tough one Yance....Both devastating punchers. Moore could handle the big men pretty good and maybe just a little too cute for Foster. Saying that when Bob was at light heavy he was frightening and his size to weight ratio was one of his assets...Gonna go with Moore though very tentatively.

Im going with Moore here. Great matchup and could go either way but Moore has more wins against top quality guys than foster has. Foster's biggest win is dick tiger. I can see moore having enough savvy to outpoint foster and even stop him with a sneaky right if he got the chance.

Moore....might knock Foster out, but probably doesn't risk it since he doesn't have to. He plays it safe, gets plenty cute, and clearly out points the Sheriff.

A very good chance that Foster get to Moore early and lights out.

I would place that chance far closer to "slim" "fat" or "none"
than to "very good".

Goes down six times versus Eddie Booker, five times versus Jimmy Bivins and gets knocked out by Ezzard Charles (fighting at light-heavyweight) while in his prime but he's going to stay on his feet versus Bob Foster? Uh no.

FAR more KO's on Archies list, far cagier, more ring intelligence, hit's almost as hard.
Foster's likely to hit something.....more likely the Canvas than the Ol Mongoose. Foster's not the guy who's going to get that job done.
Sure Foster always has a chance, but his options are no where near as numerous as the ways Archie has to get it done.
As far as pointing out the off nights.....no competitive fight with Ezzard is an "off" night. And he has the best "return to win" of anyone in history.
Oh...and the number of fights is telling.....more chances to have off nights on Archies schedule. Archie has well over twice as many KO's as Foster had fights.
Smart money would not be on the Sheriff, but I'd be happy to take your bet.

I would be betting that the old Mongoose finds a way to get 'er done in this one, but he best be careful. Foster could starch guys pretty quick.

Foster could possibly put Moore down, but with all that experience Archie had, it's most likely not going to happen. Moore stops Bob late, coming from behind to get the job done in 13.

So getting knocked out repeatedly in spectacular fashion is somehow not a sign you might not do so well against possibly the hardest puncher in the history of your division?

The great Archie Moore that fought Yvonne Durelle in '58 doesn't has a chance with someone that hits as hard like the great Bob Foster. I haven't seen the 40s version of Archie, so I can't say who wins this one in their primes.

Tag and Elmer......I sort of get your primal reasoning. Durell had a good night, against a great....when you fight as often as Archie did EVERYTHING THAT CAN HAPPEN WILL HAPPEN. And c'mon Ezz was far slicker than Foster.....and not exactly a pitty patter. I don't think Foster gets to use that power, but yes if he lands it he has a chance.
But having a chance against Moore...is nowhere near enough to put the odds in Fosters favor. OK...they fight 4 times....Foster tags him for the win once. But I'm betting on the 75% likelihood that Archie keeps him at angles, and Foster just does not quite get that shot. And Foster could be hit......not good when in with the Mongoose.

I see your point, bro. The great Archie Moore was a terrific fighter. Even in his 40s, I was amazed in his stamina and will in his fights with the great Rocky Marciano and also in his first fight with Yvonne Durelle. I have never seen the 1940s version of The Ol' Mongoose. But, I could assume that he was very good. One of boxing's true all time greats (#18 in my view, p4p. And #2 at 175lbs behind the only man that beat him 3 times, who was a special fighter himself, the great Ezzard Charles)
Now, the great Bob Foster, was nearly invincible at 175lbs. And he hit like a mule! Of his 8 pro losses, He only had 3 losses at Light-heavyweight and 5 against the heavyweights. Of his 3 losses at 175, he lost twice when he was a greenish young boxer, and the other loss was when he was already washed up. But between 1967 and 1972, Foster was very dominant at 175lbs
In my estimation, he hit harder than Moore with one shot power, but, to me, Archie was the better KO artist and by far, in the rankings, the better fighter when evaluating their total boxing careers.

This would be an instant candidate for fight of the year if it happened. I'd lean toward Moore as Foster was the light heavyweight version of Tommy Hearns. Hits a ton, but can't take it.

That's true, but, I think The Hitman could take it better than the great Bob Foster
